I just stated my pre op diet last Tuesday (5 days ago) and I've been very strict and have been writing down everything that I eat to ensure that I keep under my 1200 calories. I do the Protein Shakes for breakfast and lunch and then my low calorie meal for dinner with 2-3 small Snacks such as a 10 calorie sugar free Jello cup, and as to date, I have yet to loose any weight. I average around 1010 calories a day. I'm concerned that because I haven't lost anything, the pre op diet isn't doing what it's designed to do and I could be re-rejected come surgery day. Maybe I'm expecting results too quickly?? Has anyone else experienced this? When did you start to see results? My surgery is scheduled for September 6th.

Are you doing any exercise? If not I would recommend starting slow and working your way up. Swimming is very good for overweight people because you don't have to worry about joints. If you are concerned about wearing a bathing suit; keep in mind once you are in the Water no one can see you! I do lap swimming and have a water proof MP3 player that really makes a difference. You can also make water aerbics as intense as you want. Ask the instructor for ways to make it easier or harder.

I'm actually on my feet all day due to my job - so I'm very active, with lots of walking. Plus side, after posting this question, I stepped on the scales this morning and had lost a few pounds so I'm feeling a little better about the whole thing. Thank you for your feedback :-)

My Doctor did not say anything about a pre-op diet. Any Suggestions?

Amy...I am totally with you! Other than 3 days pre-op Clear liquids only....I am a little concerned. I would love to hear people's suggestions!unsure.gif

I've been keeping to under 1,200 calories. A Protein shake for Breakfast, and for lunch and then a light dinner under 500 calories of lean meat or fish and veggies. 2-3 Snacks a day, each under 100 calories. My general day consists of Snacks such a a sugar free Jello cup (10 calories) , fat free cottage cheese with sugar free jelly (90 calories) and my favorite, a bag of edamame (90 calories). I found these in the freezer section of Walmart. A box contains 5 or 6 individual steam bags which makes it convenient to take to work.

I've found that you can't skimp on the Protein powder that you use. Your run of the mill Protein powder from Walmart tastes terrible and makes it hard to enjoy. BSL Lean Dessert Protein Powder is AMAZING!! I look forward to my shake every morning, they have flavors such as chocolate coconut candy bar, banana cream pie, vanilla and chocolate fudge. I haven't tried the banana nut bread, and I wasn't much of a fan of the cinnamon roll because I don't like cinnamon.

Hope this helps!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
