plumpdude 8 Posted August 28, 2011 So I am 13 days post op and I am supposed to be on a liquid diet for 21 days. Only a week left. Anyway last night I made some BBq short ribs and pulled BBQ chicken for my family. I wanted to taste the chicken to season it correctly as I am culinary trained. My plan was to take a smal bite and spit it out just to see if need to add anything. Well I think I might(wierd because I thought I spit it all out too) have swallowed by accident the tiniest smallest particle of chicken and I think it is stuck because since 8:30(12 hours) last night I have this feeling of like a pill being stuck in the back of my throat. I went to whole foods this morning and chowed some papaya enzymes and what not. I dont have any pain but its just uncomfortable. So where does food get stuck? Is that what it feels like? Like a pill getting stuck after you swallow it? It feels like its stuck in the upper part of my esophogus. Im so upset with myself because I was absolutely flawless with my liquid diet so far. jennifer1 180 Posted August 28, 2011 when food gets stuck it's right at the band site(my experience) and it can be quite painful or just uncomfortable. my breath gets short and i walk around hoping to make it pass. I've only had to throw up(sorry that's gross) once from being stuck. trust me when you get stuck you will definelty know. i'm not sure if you were actually "stuck". i've never had it last for more than a few minutes though. Its pretty annoying.
kittyforet 50 Posted August 28, 2011 You may not be stuck.....you may have just irritated things.... can you drink Water and have it stay down? If so, you aren't stuck. Does anything come up? I once got stuck on banana bread (tried to wolf down a too-large piece!) and it feels like a huge boulder right above my chest that won't move. Mine only lasted a few minutes and I was able to relax and walk around and it went down. You might still be swollen, so go back to liquids if you can keep them down. If no liquid stays down, go see your doctor ASAP, you might need a slight unfill. good luck!!

Yeah I can drink fine and I am continuing my liquid diet just like I have been but it just feels like something is stuck just where my neck meets my chest bone. 54Shirley 105 Posted August 28, 2011 Well,,,, once the fluids continue to go down, it might take with it anything that is hung up on the band, Don't eat anything at all, just stay on liquids. No doubt your swollen too. You could be feeling the swelling also. That will go down in a day or two. Take Care, Shirley.
Serifa 10 Posted August 28, 2011 I'm four weeks post op and have that problem anytime I swallow food. I went in and had a xray and my band is fine (they said I would know if it was stuck). They also said my throat was probably still irritated and swollen from surgery or perhaps my thyroid gland is swollen. I'm just taking very very small bites, it seems to be getting a little better each day. Also I developed thrush on my tongue a few days post op but it cleared up. There could be some of that left inside the throat. There are so many new things going on, it's really hard to figure out what is normal. I'm also drinking warm Water throughout the day to sooth my throat. Good luck and let me know how it goes. So I am 13 days post op and I am supposed to be on a liquid diet for 21 days. cheryl2586 3,053 Posted August 28, 2011 I cant imagine swallowing a small particle of chicken would become stuck. That makes no sense how big do you think that particle was. If it was a chunk yes a particle no.
tengles 0 Posted August 28, 2011 I've gotten stuck, usually because I ate to fast and did not chew, and the pain is pretty bad in my chest. I also can't keep Water down and I start to slime (yes it's as gross as it sounds) . My Dr said to use Diet Coke to get it to go down and it works great. Hard to swallow at first but once I get a couple of sips it feels so much better.
BaileyRose 13 Posted August 28, 2011 I know exactly what you're talking about. I've had this problem several times. It's not painful, just annoying. And it lasts for hours. This happened to me the first time i had solid food. I just ate my pineapple and papaya enzymes and went back on fluids for a couple days and it went away. You're not stuck on the band... It just feels like the food is stuck at the top of your throat. It will eventually dissolve and go away :-) So I am 13 days post op and I am supposed to be on a liquid diet for 21 days. My band is in place, but part of my stomach is pulled up threw the and over the band then stitched . He Told me "if you drink Diet Coke, It will eat the stitching away from the band. " It's done that way by some Dr.'s to help prevent slippage. Shirley.

If it was a chunk yes a particle no. Yeah it had to be 1/4 the size of a pea if anything. I was almost 99% sure I spit everything out.

I am continuing to just do my prescribed liquid diet and I am doing fine. Thanks all.
