HeavyDutyQ-tee 2 Posted August 28, 2011 Hello LBT... I have attended a seminar and I had my consultation with the surgeon this past Friday (8/26/11). The nurse has already set me up for all my testing to be done on Monday. I will have an EKG, Upper G.I., and all my Lab Work. Also, on Tuesday I go for my Psych Eval. I guess my question is does an EKG or the Upper G.I. hurt or are they painful? What are they? Why do we need them before being approved for surgery? I'm very excited because my insurance doesn't require a 6month pre-diet, so if I get everything done and all the required paperwork submitted, I'm hoping for a surgery date in October!!! YAY!!! Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for all responses, tips, words of wisdom, and any advice!!!
cheryl2586 3,053 Posted August 28, 2011 No they do not hurt and ekg shows the heart rythm and an upper gi you drink some barium and they take pictures of your stomach to make sure your food digest ok or that you do not have any issues before banding. Cindy C 150 Posted August 28, 2011 None of it is painful...not even uncomfortable. You may be surprised and get a date sooner than October. I had my surgery 25 days after my first consult.
54Shirley 105 Posted August 29, 2011 I just had a EKG recently, and by the time they hooked me up to stickers they place on you, then turned the machine on,,, not even 10 seconds they turned it off, and pulled off their stickers. That was it. Upper GI is painless too. So No, the tests don't hurt at all.
