Hello Everyone. Well I’m 5 days post op, I was banded on 8/22/11. I must admit, it was a lot more pain than I thought it would be but the hospital was wonderful. The second and third days were by far the worst and everyday I feel better and stronger. I am only able to eat (or drink I should say) 300 calories a day. I should be getting 400 to 800 but my stomach is just still to swollen for any more. I have been making sure I drink all my Water and I walk around as much as I can. The Gas X have really helped with the gas. This journey is an amazing one, I’ve learned the past week that it’s going to take work because although your stomach says one thing our brain says another. I am looking forward to my new lifestyle and I wish you all the best. To all the Pre-Op patients, all I can say is give your body time to heal and remember to drink/eat slowly. SO very important!!!

I was banded on the 23rd. I am still really sore. My upper abdomen is very swollen. I think I need to get some gas x. Weird that I have not been eating so little but I haven't lost anything yet. Is your swelling improving?

Congrats to you. It will get better, i promise :)

Try the Mylanta gas chewables, helped me so much. I sent my husband to the store to get me some, he came back with 3 boxes, didn't want to have to go back. LOL

And do not drink from a straw. I did not drink the Protein Shakes until after 1 week as they kept making me gassy, so i just stuck to broth, popsicles and Jello. i did drink skim milk too.

the first 2 weeks suck, banders hell. but when you get to finally have some creamy Soups, oh that was the best. loved me some Tomato Soup and creamy potato soups.

Wishing you luck on your new journey to your new life :)

I am coming up on a year in October, but I will never forget that first week. A lifesaver to me was my heating pad... it helped everything ~ including gas pains. Good luck on your journey ~ I can say for me personally it was the best thing I have ever done. :)

Yes I agree, the heating pad has been my absolute best friend. I am still experiencing some pain in my stomach area. Is this normal? I believe it when you say the first two weeks are Bandster hell. There is no way of getting around this, it is absolutely no fun, but SO WORTH IT :)

Hey! I was banded on the same day! I am feeling so much better today! How is your energy? I was completely wiped out last week, but feel much more perky today. Keep me posted on your progress!

Some days I feel like I have energy and somedays (like yesterday) I feel completely drained. I know it is because there are days I can't get in 400 or 500 calories and when I walk on top of that and end up only having a couple hundred calories left that I've actually taken in during the day it leaves me with zero energy. I know this will change when my body allows me to start eating more. (I lost 16 lbs in my first week) so I know I'm heading in the right direction, it would just be nice to have a little energy to go with it. :)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
