So I am little frustrated. I was banded on 8-4-11. I get up every morning and exercize and I dont eat that much , 1 - 1 1/2 cups a meal. I always have a shake for Breakfast and I eat plenty of protene. I drink 4-5 bottles of Water a day. Directly after I was banded I was loosing about 1/2 lb a day and it was comming off pretty good. This past week I have not lost a thing. As a matter of fact I have gained 1 lb. I dont understand. I dont get my first fill till Sept 6. I just started solid foods this week. I have had no issues, but I am wondering if this has caused me to stop loosing. Help. What do yall think?

I am going through the same thing right now. I lost 17 lbs in like the 1st 10 days then it stopped, just aboit the time I went to Mushies. I just made 2 weeks today, so I still dont know much about it. I posted this question in another room and I was told that it was normal. I've been told that we are really suppossed to lose ony 1-2 lbs per week, so maybe that's what it is. We just have to be patient and see. I can say one thing, regardless of what the scale says, I know there will have to be a difference shown at some point because I am not eating but a small percentage of what I used to and I am making better choices. I have faith that it will show at some point.

You just started solid foods. That's why you had the gain. I gained 5 pounds that week. Don't worry. Your body is adjusting to all the changes you're putting it through. The weight lose will pick back up in a couple weeks. You might want to avoid the scale until then. I know it can be very frustrating!

If you were losing a 1/2 Lb. a day,, that is Fantastic, but,,,, once filled , that might slow down for you. Maybe not in the beginning, but it will slow down to near or what it should be 1-2 lbs. a week... It is a s l o w go.

But I think you are doing just fine. You started eating, so things kinda stopped ! Just Like a Diet !

So when your system gets use to what you are now eating, it will start back up.

Enjoy your weight loss, and Cindy is wright ! Don't worry about that scale... Enjoy yourself instead..

I'm starting to experience the same thing. I've read it's normal, but it's still frustrating. I've been waiting so long to gain a sense of control over my body (and food addiction) and to lose this weight that has been holding me back from being my real self and from living life to the fullest. I got a little taste of the feeling of losing with the pre-op diet and the first post-op week....then this week nothing, infact I even gained a pound!! I don't want to wait anymore...that's what my brain it saying....but I know my body it saying....what the #%#%^@ did you just do to me!! I've read before that when you reduce your calories so drastically and then start eating more (like moving from the liquid to mushies to real food) your body will hold on to those extra calories cause it doens't know what's going on and once it realizes it's going to continue to get a certain amount of calories it will start to let some go....if that makes sense.

I also experienced my first fight with head hunger last night and it sucked. I wasn't physically hungry but wow, did my mind not think that what I eat was enough. I think I ended up eating a little to much, as I had a tiny bit of a full feeling in my lower chest. I also realize I need to start breaking routines, like coming home from work and basically getting into my pjs. I need to start to do stuff after work. Go for a walk, go to the gym, visit a friend, shop....do something!!

I'm also going to put up the scales till Sept 1. I know that's really only 6 days away, but I've been on them either everyday or every other day since August 1th. Sept 1 will be one month since pre-op diet and I wanted to track monthly weight loss and take pics, so I'll hold off till then and try to only weigh in weekly on Thursdays after that.

I'm totally rambling on now....sorry about that :)

I have had a stall the last couple of weeks. It's my own fault for crazing, etc. Yours is normal. Once you begin eating "real" again, your body goes through another adjustment. Just keep doing what you are doing and you will see the pounds (slowly) come up!

Hugs!

That's why I love this site! There is always someone who is experiencing or has experienced what you're going through.

I too was starting to worry because the numbers on the scale are going in the wrong direction since I've started eating solids. Good to know that this is a normal occurence and I will try not to weigh myself so much.

another to add to all this is your tom it plays a big part in your weight. I really notice swelling and Water retention now. 90 pounds ago I did not, so everything changes!

I gained when I started solid foods too. When I went in for my first fill, I was up .2 pounds from the day of surgery... I was NOT happy. But, now (about a month later) I'm down about 18 pounds. It's slow-going overall, but I think that's the best way to go.

Dont get discouraged. At first you are just on liquids then you move onto foods with more substance while the initial swelling from surgery goes down, so you will be more hungry because you dont have a fill yet. It is normal to gain back a little bit of what you initally lost... once you start getting your fills you will notice a difference. Although I have to say I only noticed a very small difference with my first two fills, and on the 3rd one I finally knew what restriction felt like. Be patient and stick with the lifestyle change and you will see the results. :) Hang in there!

I am so glad to hear all this. I was banded 8-11 and went for my two week check up. I had lost 10 lbs but that was within the first week or so. I walked 4 days this week and if any of you live in the south you are wondering why I didn't sweat 10 more lbs off. The dr. seemed pleased so I have til the 16th of Spet before my fill. I want to see what I can do for me!! Good Luck to all you!

Hi I was banded on une 28th and I lost very well the first 2 weeks or so then I slowed down for about a week after I started on solids. I think it is normal. Try not too worry about it too much. Remember your body is still healing from the surgery and you need to take that time too heal. Hang in there it will get better. I will be getting my second fill on the 26th of Sept and I am ready for it now. Its all a process...

Wow I just joined today, becasue I was feeling down about gaining a pound. I had my surgery August 11th, and started my soft foods August 25th. When I got on the scale yesterday and saw that I gained a pound, it really put me in a funk :-(.. I'm glad I found this site to be able to talk to people who are going through the same thing as me. I get my first fill September 6th, and I can not wait.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
