Michelle Conoly 0 Posted August 26, 2011 Hello everyone. I am getting my band on Sept. 2nd. I was told that I did not have a pre-op diet. I have noticed that a lot of people do. Is this normal and has anyone gotten banded without a pre-op diet. I am really excited and nervious because it is so close. I did not think that it would happen so fast. I was orignally given that date of Sept 12 or the 26 depending on insurance approval, but I got the call that I was approved and my date was the 2nd. Any advice would be appreciated because I am nervious. Also I was wondering is there anyone that is getting banded this month that live in Las Vegas, NV. Thanks ahead of time for the advice. BaileyRose 13 Posted August 26, 2011 I didn't have a pre-op diet other than "try and stay away from the carbs". That's what my doctor told me. Good luck with everything! You'll do great :-)
Cindy C 150 Posted August 26, 2011 My doctor said a pre op diet was not necessary. When I asked if liver shrinkage would make it easier on him he said no. I did, however; take it upon myself to diet anyway for the week or so leading to surgery and lost 15 pounds.
millie26 1 Posted August 26, 2011 I am on day 4 of my 14 day liquid diet! It's not fun, but they said it shrinks the liver...oh well I've already lost 6 lbs! lol anyways, I'm sure it doesn't matter, good luck
dFaults 1 Posted August 26, 2011 <<<----No pre op diet. I did something small, like reduce some of the fat, made a meal a Protein Shake, and just watched what I ate. No fried foods or anything like that. Good luck!

Michelle, I had no pre-op diet. My surgeon did ask me to do only Clear liquids the day before surgery, to empty my stomach out, but otherwise, no pre-op diet was required. I did fine, and had no complications. Post-op I did three weeks of liquid diet, which was fine since I was healing from a multiple surgery (hiatal hernia, ventral hernia, and the band placement - it was a lot to recover from.) Since then i've had zero issues, and the band for me has been very successful. Good luck with your surgery! Dave
graphix1 6 Posted August 26, 2011 No pre-op diet for me. I am glad because I may have turned back if I had an all liquid diet before surgery and then 4 weeks after surgery as well. Nothing to worry about though. I was only banded 2 weeks ago and I already know it was the right decision.
Legal8y 0 Posted August 29, 2011 I am confused. This is the first time I have read so many people that were told a pre op diet was not necessary. Besides getting ready for surgery it is suppose to get you ready for post op and learning how to adjust to liquids after surgery. I'm on dayb5 of pre op. Surgery is on sept 2. I have read that then purpose of pre op diet is to help get your body ready and for a safe outcome.

My doctor assures me that it does not really make a difference. I trust him. I wish you luck with everything.
Michelle Conoly 0 Posted September 1, 2011 Thanks everyone for your words of wisdom. My doctor assures me that the preopt diet is not nessary. I guess it just depends on your doctor. Well surgery is in two days and I am excited and scared all at the same time. I am afraid that I will do something wrong. I think that I will just have to take it one day at a time. Good luck to everyone.
Losing_It150 6 Posted September 1, 2011 I can tell you that mentally it has made a HUGE difference for me. I'm on day 7 and glad I have to do liquids. The first 3 days were hell though!
BaileyRose 13 Posted September 1, 2011 I had no pre-op diet and didn't find the three weeks post op liquid diet difficult at all. I don't think the pre-op liquid diet is necessary for everyone to prep you for life after surgery. At least it wasn't for me. I am confused.
