Insurance Approvals--UGGGHHHH!!!

Recommended Posts

I'm not a very patient person and waiting on insurance approval is awful. Everything was submitted on 8/10 and today I contacted my surgeon's office and they said as of 8/23, it was still "pending". Really, how hard is it to say yes or no?? My surgeon's assistant said they usually respond in 2 weeks, but they can take as long as 4. The wait is driving me bonkers. What has been everyone elses experience when it took a while hearing back from insurance. Was it a good sign?

My approval was quick. My dr submitted it to insurance and the next day I called my insurance and got my approval and then I had them fax it to the surgeons office the same day. I too am a very inpatient person but this whole process has taught me some patience.

They were quick to tell me no! But I called them and fought with them and told them I wasnt going away. i met all the criteria and I would fight them to the end. My doc said it is very common for them to deny at first and then overturn later. I think they are hoping people will change their minds and forget about it. But I wasnt about to do that. As soon as I let them know that I wasnt going away though, they were quick to overturn the decision and let me get going.

Hang in there!

It took a week or more for my doctors office to submit it, but once they did I got approval the next day.

Insurance declined mine the next day after I submitted the request. By the end of the week I had yet another letter from my physician and resubmitted. Then it took about 2 weeks for the approval to come back. So, just be patient. You can also call the insurance company yourself to get the status. Cheers and good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
