I am brand new here. I'm being banded tomorrow in Houston by Dr. Spivak. My instructions are to stay on liquids for 48 hours and then move on to very soft food. From everything I'm reading on this site, it sounds like I should stay on liquids longer than 48 hours. What does everyone suggest? I really want to be successful and have as few complications as possible. What liquids are the best? Is Soup ok? What about applesauce? I have so many questions. I'd love any advice.:help:

Thank you,

AngieO

What kind of blended foods do you think you should've eaten? Do you think you should've started blended foods earlier than 2 weeks post-op?

Dr. Spivak did my banding and I followed his directions and had no problems. Your body will let you know if you are ready for mushies after the initial 48 hours.

I did fine following Dr. Spivak's instructions. I lived off of sugar free pudding, Applesauce and sugar free Fudge Pops!

There are a few of us on here that used Dr. Spivak so I am sure you will be fine.

First: do what your Dr. tells you to do. I was only on liquids for 48 hrs. too. I was only on soft foods for the next 5 or 6 days after that. I must have called my nutritionist 6 times in the first 3 weeks! You'll be fine. Stop eating if it hurts. Concentrate on how you feel!

Both of you make me feel better about being on liquids for only 48 hours. I'm ready to start on this journey. I know it won't be easy, but I'm very excited. Thank you,

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
