Feel horribly guilty!!!

Recommended Posts

I am a week and a half post op and feel great (except for some shoulder pain I started getting yesterday)

I was doing great on my liquid diet for the past week and a half and haven't cheated once until tonight. I just ate some cheez-its (210 calories). I so deperately needed something besides chicken broth and oatmeal. I hope I didn't mess anything up.

Has anyone else cheated so early after surgery?

I'm sure you didn't do any damage but don't eat anymore solid food. You need to heel from surgery. If you need a change, go to Taco Bell and get Pintos and cheese. Add a couple pks of taco sauce to them so they are pretty runny. High Protein, low calories and band friendly!smile.gif

Thank you so much Cindy. I will try that tomorrow. I see that you got banded 3 years ago. How do you feel? Have you had any problems with the band?

Your right about that part only human.. We all are .

But give yourself a chance to heal..

I know it can be a drag, but try new things too.

It won't be long, and you will be on regular food.

Shirley.

You are welcome. No, I haven't had any problems. Nothing major anyway. There have been times when I have been overfilled and had to go back for a little unfill and I have done my fair share of PB'ing but I think that's normal. I feel great. I've never had so much energy or self confidence in my life!

I am also a week and a half post surgery. The liquid diet is driving me nuts too! Had a lick of chocolate cake yesterday the size of a pinky nail. My in-laws brought over an entire Entainman's chocolate cake after my husband had told them he was on a diet. They don't know about me. I know eating is my responsibility, but I think family sometimes contributes to our demise. I have found certain things have helped me in the short time doing this. Here are a few: sugar free ice pops, Campbells French Onion Soup mixed with the chicken broth..strain the onions, Lipton's cup a soup Tomato flavor (it's creamier than Campbells, yet it still counts as "clear Liduid". Oh, and adding cinnamon and vanilla extract to my chocolate Protein Shake makes it taste like a real milk shake when belended with skim milk plus Fiber.< /p>

The first 2 weeks is called "banders hell". We all know how you feel and what you are going through. You do need to stick to the diet your doctor gave you. You are healing and will still be swollen. I know it is hard, but once it is over, it is over and you will be so happy to eat a solid food again.

I get to eat on THURSDAY! I'm so stinkin excited to have some scrambled eggs or something, lol! My surgeon told me that the reason for nothing mushy or solid is because if it doesn't go down due to swelling and it makes you throw up, then it's too late, you could damage the band while it's in the healing stage. I don't get this for 2 reasons: One, I threw up twice right after surgery, so did I already mess up the band??? And Two, I have my Gummy Vitamins and occasionally things that didn't quite get strained out of my Soup and everything goes down fine. BUT, I shall abide by the rules. THURSDAY! WOOT!

So, i'm sure that since the cheez it's went down, then everything is fine!

mmmm...cheez-its sound so good right now :) It's not a point of "cheating" persay, it's a point of your body trying to heal. Your stomach just got squeezed and is trying to pick itself back up after being "abused" so to say. The guilty feeling is probably coming from the fact that you know it's not the best snack food you could have had (no matter how delicious!" If that's the case then just realize that this is a lifestlye change not an overnight change. Not only that, but you can have a few of them. Just because you got the band doesn't mean you can never eat again. Though later on down the road cheez-its might not agree with you! However, this early into it it may not be that great of a choice. I probably wouldn't start eating carrots and steak but a few cheez-its will not hurt you. If you're more concerned about the band itself and if you ruined it - no. Unless you feel extreme pain and discomfort you're fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
