Dying of thirst...

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

I got my fill this morning at about 10, and I usually have a tough time afterwards. I think my esophagus swells a lot, so I was thinking this would go away. I have not been able to get any liquid down at all today, and consequently, no food either. Its a Saturday so its not like I can just tough it out and go in tomorrow morning. Does anyone know if emergency rooms are equipped to 'unfill' bands in cases like this? I'm in the fort worth tx area.

Thanks,

If you have tinkled at least twice today give yourself 12-24 hours of stomach rest....total rest to see if the swelling will go down and sipping fluids will be tolerated.....if you haven't tinkled at all today I would call your dr/surgeon's answering service for advice. Someone has to be on call I think. I have lived through this many times and I wish you well....please keep posting your status and follow up.

Mimi

Thanks,

THE HOSPITAL CLOSEST TO WHERE YUO HAD YOUR PROCEEDURE SHOULD BE ABLE TO UNFILL YOU. OR IF YOU COULD GO BACK TO THE HOSPITAL THAT DID THE PROCEDURE WOULD BE PERFECT. TRY WARM LIQUID. STAY AWAY FROM COLD. THAT MAKES YOU SPASM AND NOT BE ABLE TO SWALLOW. IF YOU CAN'T GET WARM LIQUID AND I KNOW I SAID SATY AWAY FROM COLD BUT TRY ICE chips. SLOWLY. BUT IF YOUR URIN IS GETTING DARK HEAD TO THE HOSPITAL, ITS TOO HOT OUT FOR YOU TO NOT BE DRINKING ANYTHING.

Stacie: Call Dr. Ferrara's office! If you read the note above the check-out counter there, it says to call their office in case of an emergency--and not being able to drink anything in this heat is an emergency! Their answering service will let the on-call doctor know what's going on. Let us know how you're doing once you've talked to someone there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
