So I started soft foods yesterday. I had a slice of turkey deli meat and cheese melted in the microwave. I took TINY bites and chewed well... And I felt fine eating it... Taking time in between bites... All the right things.

Well this morning I woke up with a pain innmy chest and it felt very tight. That feeling hasn't gone away all day. I've just been on clearfluids today hoping to get rid of this feeling. I have no hunger today either. The fluids go down it's just more difficult. I've had no vomiting. But I did take a nap on the couch and when i sat up it felt like little pieces of food were in my mouth... I'm guessing that means what I ate last night got stuck? Also, I've been CONSTANTLY burping all day. I burp all the time anyway, but this is seriously constant.

Any advice on how to get rid of this? I'm only 3 weeks post op and I don't really want to throw up and risk a slip or else I would just make myself throw it up...

drink warm liquids, tea, broth to help ease the tightness. you most likely are stuck, if it does not get better, i would call the nurse to ask what else you can do. i know that right before my monthly, i can feel my band tighten and i drink warm liquids for 2 days and that eases the swelling and i am fine. don't get the bloat in my stomach like i used to. good luck. hope it gets better soon.

I am not being mean spirited deli meat and cheese are not mushies they are solids. I did not have solids until a month after surgery. Mushies for me included cottage cheese and ricotta. I would recommend stopping the solids they will cause you problems right now.

I agree. Deli meat is not a mushy!

I'm not on the mushy phase Anymore... Im suppose to be eating solids but starting with food that is softer. I think you're right though... I'll go back to mushies for now. And drink warm liquids.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
