Just had my 1st post op today, was banded on 8/1. I just started "mushies" for dinner...didn't really even enjoy it b/c I was so stressed out about something getting stuck! My first instinct was to drink Water w/ my meal but the nutritionist says nothing to drink 30 mins before and especially 30 mins after a meal. I found myself very thirsty and wanting a drink. Anyone else feel this way? Will I get used to not drinking w/ meals?

Yes, you'll get used to it. I also have used it as a way to not eat. I know if I feel hungry and I drink some Water then I am forced to wait 30 minutes before eating. Usually by that time, I realize I wasn't actually hungry!

I have to drink when I eat. Otherwise I would have a couple of spoonfuls and it would feel like a Heart Attack... My surgeon said I'm to sensitive, and if Water works then do it. Just don't go over 1200 calories Daily. So that's how mine works.

I physically CAN'T drink with my meal - I'll throw it all up. My lapband book says it's called the "cork effect". Where the food sits in the esophagus like a cork and if I put in liquid, it'll come directly out. Yes, I get very thirsty after a meal - especially hard when what I ate was spicy or salty. I have to wait about an hour after eating, but I usually drink up to my first bite of food. I wonder why they say you can't drink before you eat?

It's been almost 2 yrs for me and I'm getting used to it actually.

I'm like shirley... I have to drink a little when I eat. My doctor said it was fine since I still keep satisfied for several hours.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
