54Shirley 105 Posted August 18, 2011 This Saturday my Husband will be taking me out to dinner, at a nice place. Where they serve course after course. I hope they have a simple menu to pick from. We will be Married for 35 yrs., so I know he will want something nice. I need a suggestion on Ordering food. I don't eat much. So light suggestions if you can think of any. I'm thinking Fish........ Thank You, Shirley.
NJGirl32 43 Posted August 18, 2011 Congratulations on 35 years!!! Fish is always a great option especially with a good sauce! Or maybe something that will hold up to reheating (that way you can make a few meals out of it!). Enjoy, and congrats again!
elcee 3,341 Posted August 18, 2011 Although fish would seem like an easy option it often gives me problems. I do much better with Pasta, risotto and those type of foods. Also slow cooked meats e.g lamb shanks (obviously I don't eat a whole one). I would concentrate on choosing something that will go down easily without giving you problems and not worry as much about the calories. Afterall it is what you do 90% of the time that is most important and to eat a little of what you fancy on a special occasion is good for you.

Sistersue 12 Posted August 19, 2011 When ieat out I get a to go box when they bring the meal and take off the plate what I can't eat then. That way I am not tempted to take just one more bite and then have to run for it and no one asked if I don't like it. I get chicken because I can get it down and it reheats well. Jachut 487 Posted August 19, 2011 I find the same as Elcee, Pasta and risotto are always safe options for me when eating out, and I do it seldom enough that I just dont worry about the calories - fish can be a dangerous food for me, plus generally I loathe it anyway, apart from salmon or if its dipped in batter and deep fried :-). We went out for our 20th anniversary to the Lakehouse in Daylesford which is a very very well regarded restaurant here and they have those types of menus where you get about six courses, and its five star food. I just about burst, those types of special meals are really difficult, people cant believe you would actually leave food of that quality on your plate, especially when its the tiny serve in the middle of the huge white plate kind of affair. But I simply had to. And you absolutely would not be crass enough to ask for a doggy bag in a restaurant of that calibre, not that any restaurant here will allow you to take food home. I absolutely wont join in a chinese banquet anymore! I pay for my own meal and eat a tiny bit of that. Enjoy your dinner, have what you want and Celebrate your anniversary! Mimilou2004 13 Posted August 19, 2011 So many nice posts that were fun to read......If dessert draws you the most have something off the appetizer menu and get the dessert...it is YOUR special celebration. Jackie....why can't you take out leftovers where you are? Mimi

Jackie....why can't you take out leftovers where you are? Mimi Its against health regulations. I always find anyway that restaurant food is best enjoyed in a small quantity occasionally, its not the sort of healthy food i would prepare at home, and nothing ever tastes that great reheated a day late, so i personally look at the cost of dining out as a whole experience, and not focus on the " value" of a meal i eat a third of. ledgins 0 Posted September 6, 2011 When my husband and I go out we share an entree..that way I don't waste half of mine and it helps him cut calories too!! We just add an extra Soup or salad..depending on how hungry I am feeling at the time.
Humming Bird 275 Posted September 6, 2011 If I'm going to a nice place I order a glass of wine. I make sure I drink the entire glass of wine before the first bite of any type of food.:martini_shaken::biggrin3: If they have some type of thin Soup (like tomato) I get that and then can manage to eat a few scallops or crab. :lunch: If the soup is very chunky I can only eat the soup. Sometimes salad is a good choice for me too.
sparkplug 106 Posted September 16, 2011 Those are all Great Answers ! I Thank You all for your time, and kind words. Shirley. Congrats, we are celebrating our 26th wedding anniversary this sunday and have reservations for the Prime Rib room which is fancy dancy. You do not ask for doggie bags there so I take a little of everything on my plate to look like I eat like everybody else and pick a bite of this and a bite of that. This fancy places do not usually see people "clean" their plates like buffets. These type of people think that is glutony is unacceptable behavior so I fit in with the other hoity toity people by leaving all kinds of foods on my plate and taste a little bit of everything with my mai mai (fish) not sure how you spell it because only have it once a year because of how expensive it is. Have a wonderful night out and enjoy your meal, tomorrow is another day. Been to goal for almost 3 years and you need to do whatever you can to keep in check.
