sassy&happy 0 Posted February 1, 2006 Hello all! I am attempting to get approved to have lap band surgery and was denied once due to a requirement by my insurance for a 6 mo medically supervised weight loss plan. Now that I completed that and am ready to be resubmitted I have been having chest pain. Went to the Dr and have had all pertinent tests only to learn that it was some blockage in my esophagus (caused by acid) from reflux. I also have a hiatal hernia. I have been prescribed Nexxium and told that the problem should be cleared up in approx a month. I am frantic!! I know this can't be a good thing as far as the band goes. Will this interfere or cause further problems does anyone know? Will this eliminate me from being a candidate for the lap band? I don't know what to do and don't know if I should advise the bariatric surgeon or just let them submit me to the insurance co and see what happens. Help!! :help:
MsButterKup23 1 Posted February 1, 2006 Hi, I can't say for sure. But I know that the band helps reflux in some cases and there have been a few people on here with hernias that were repaired either before (seperate surgery) or at the time of Lap Band surgery. Best of luck to you!
LourdesQO 0 Posted February 1, 2006 Usually patients reflux goes away with the Lap-Band. Good luck on your approval.
