Alli in StL 23 Posted August 18, 2011 I've been lurking and reading almost every single post for quite some time. I decided it was time to finally join the forums and start participating. I went to a seminar at the beginning of the year and had my initial consult on Feb 28, 2011. I have Cigna, so I had to do a 6 month supervised diet. I had my last weigh-in on Monday, Aug 15. Today, Wednesday, Aug 17, I called the insurance company to see if the surgeon's office had submitted the paperwork. The girl I talked to said that not only had it been submitted, but I was approved! Woohoo! Now it's all becoming real and I'm terrified and excited all at the same time. It's great to be here! Alli
Shannon28 26 Posted August 18, 2011 I would be excited too! Congrats on getting approved! That's the thing I'm worried about the most, the thought of surgery isn't bothering me at all but not knowing if I will get approved is driving me nuts lol. My seminar isn't even until the 8th so it seems like forever, but it's mandatory so I will do everything that needs to be done. Congrats again on your surgery. You will do great! Do you have a date scheduled yet? I've been lurking and reading almost every single post for quite some time. I decided it was time to finally join the forums and start participating. n2animals 5 Posted August 19, 2011 I have a question, did they count the first meeting with the nutrionist towards the 6 months process? I was told by the lap band center that the initial meeting doesnt count so its relly more like 7 months ( I have Cigna also). Also, if you dont mind sharing, what was your BMI, did you have any co-morbidities? I just want to compare and see if mine will hopefully go as smoothly as yours! Alli in StL 23 Posted August 19, 2011 Correct. I met with the nutritionist once and then had 6 appointments with my regular dr for weigh-ins. It's not really 7 months though. You have to have 6 appointments, but one can be on the last day of the month and the other one the first of the next month. You just have to have weigh-ins in 6 consecutive months. At least, that's how it was explained to me. My current BMI is 47.1. I do have co-morbitites - hypertension and thyroid disease. Cigna has been really nice about answering any questions I've had.
