Just wondering if any other female's period has changed after surgery? I was extremely regualr before surgery, with short periods. Then one week after surgery my period began (it wasn't supposed to) and it's been going on for 20 days. I talked to my nurse about it and she didn't seemed concerned. Any thoughts?

Mine was supposed to be around the time of my surgery, didn't have it. Two weeks later it started and lasted a long time. Mine is normally very regular too since I'm on the pill. I'm not too worried about it. Probably just the effects of anesthesia and having something done to your body.

Losing (and gaining) a lot of weight really quick has a huge affect on your hormones. It is pretty normal for your cycle to change. I got mine a few weeks after surgery..came a week or so early, but it has since regulated. I am to the point now where it is regular...and only lasts for 3 or 4 days (which is totally awesome)!

I started 2 weeks late after having surgery, and i am normally like clockwork. when you lose weight, your cycles tend to be off. body is trying to regulate itself from the weight loss.

I consider myself to be on the other side of menopause, yet I got a light period right after my surgery.

This is interesting. I didn't have a problem with my periods after the surgery but this month, I started early and I was in shocked when I did. Now I know it must be due to the weight lost. My flow hasn't changed which is a plus. I enjoy the light periods and they only last 3 or 4 daysrolleyes.gif

Your cycle can definately be off, however the bleeding for 20 days part is concerning. You need to contact your GYN and let him/her know what is going on. It could be completely unrelated to having the band placed. You also need to make sure you are not getting anemic.

I started a couple days after surgery too... 20 days makes me a little concerned though... My doctor said it's normal to start after surgery even if you arent scheduled to just because your body goes through shock. Maybe call your obgyn and see what she/he thinks?

Mine was actually supposed to start a few days b4 the surgery but I figured since I was on the preop diet it did something to my cycle. I'm now 9 days postop and it still hasnt come and I used to be very regular. I'm sure it'll come exactly when I dont want it to and ruin my plans  but I'm hoping that once it finally does get here it doesnt change too much. I think u should contact ur GYN about the 20 day part though

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
