Yup, that's me :Banane03:

So what's my good news today..

I am off to see the the wizard, the wonder wizard of WLS... Yeah baby!

Today is my first appt with Dr. Moazzez. So, hopefully with his guidance, I will come out today with a definate decision... as to RNY or Lap Band. I have been more in favor of Lap Band, but havent 100% made up my mind yet and I need to do that so that I am 100% comfortable with my decision. :) So hopefully, with the DOC help, I can finally make that decision.

I post again when I get home...:xena_banana:

Hello ladies..

Sorry I didnt get a chance to update earlier. I have bee WAY TOO DARN BUSY with work stuff. Anyways...

My appt. with Dr. M went well. I am a good candidate (knew that already as big as my azz is :bananajump: I really like the Doc, even though he's married... and he told me about her a couple of timess (I must have been giving him the eye ) But what I was most disappointed about is I was hoping he was gonna tell me that either one, the lap band or the RNY, was best for me and he didnt. He said that is really up to the patient.... well , what if the patient cant decide??? So, I guess my lil high that I was on was deflated a bit. But was still happy I went to see him. He seemed very caring and his stats sounded good. He put me down for the Lap Band and told me if I change my mind just to call him so they can update my info. :decision:

I guess I do know that I want the band, I just need to start changing my eating habits/ exercise. The doc said that if I dont excercise, I wont lose weight, even with the band. So, I guess I gotta get my stuff together. He said I only have to lose 10-15 before surgery... ONLY...ha.:frusty:

I also go my binder... and my supa dupa folder, that I had been using to organize myself before my appt. I talk to the ins. lady at the office and she said that after my Feb appt with my PCP, to send in my paperwork and they will get me going. So, I am hoping that I can have a surgery early may.:cheer2:

Okay, gotta get back to work.... Yes ms. Theresita, I will post my food in a lil bit... although it wasnt good...AGAIN or should I sain IGAIN...:whip:

alright, you're gatting there! my doctor said it depends on if you are more of a quantity eater or a sweets-eater. Lap band for quantity, gastric for sweets, because of the 'dumping'. Like we all say, it's one thing to get banded, but your brain has to get banded, too. That's the hard part. Anyway, it seems like you're on your way, so keep it up, 10-15 pounds for the rest of your life...no problema!

Ok....I'm researching getting the band done. I just read here that lap-band for quantity and bypass for sweets! My dilema.....my quantity is sweets!

I am crazy!...hehehe....just bi-polar crazy and my manic binges are always sweet related!

I wonder if this is going to be an issue as I havne't even cosidered bypass because it's so invasive and there are so many bowel issues after the surgery. I have enough bowel issues on my own.....

Does anyone know why the "dumping" happens with the sweets?

Because a lot of your intenstines have been bypassed, the sugar all goes directly into your bloodstream and spikes your insulin levels. This causes people to feel sick, have diarrhea, etc.

Thanks for the info....

But, if that is the case and you get the dumping syndrom with sweets and gastric which bypasses your intestines...shouldn't you NOT get the gastric bypass if sweets are you issue???

well, it's supposed to be an aversive technique, you know - you eat the sweets, you get sick, you don't eat sweets anymore - kind of like changing your eating style. with the band you can still eat sweets, but smaller amounts. But it's still not good for you. Especially if you drink chocolate milkshakes or ice cream, which can go down easily, but then you will be dissappointed because you won't lose any weight.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
