How do i find a surgeon?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. Im new and considering the Lap Band. My mother had it done about a year ago and has been extremely happy besides the occasional "food stuck" situation. I want to make sure this is the right decision. Im nervous especially never have been put to sleep ( which is my biggest fear ) or go under the knife. I know my bmi is kinda low, i think, being 34 but ive never been happy with my weight and it has cause major depression.

Im trying to find a doctor in Chicago, iL. But im having trouble finding one. How did you guys find your match??

you can actually find surgeons on this web site. Look in the upper RH corner of the screen and you should see a tab labeled SURGEONS. Click on that and you can begin looking for certified surgeons in your area. You can also go to the lab band web site www.lapband.com to find a certified surgeon near you. Or try this one http://www.lapbandtalk.com/forum/842-chicago/ Good Luck! :)

Hello, Serenity. Lovely name. Congratulations on making the decision to have the LapBand. Since you have made the decision to do so, I believe that you have already conquered some of your fears. I had my surgery on the 12th of July. I noticed that you said your mom still have the food stuck issues, well that is my problem right now, i have been on liquids since I had my surgery and even though i try to eat somethings it doesn't work. I would really love to chat with your mother and ask her a few questions about how she's handling it. Now to your question at hand, how to find a surgeon. I suggest that you go online and search Bariatric surgery specialists, look in the phone book under physicians for weightloss or call any of the local hospitals and ask someone if your city has Bariatric Specialists, you can also check with your Insurance and see if they have anyone listed. After you find someone call the office and see if you can come in for a free consultation. AT the consultation you should get information on the lapband, you should get weighed, and your BMI tested. Well Serenity, I wish you the best of luck with your surgery and I hope you find someone real soon. Oh I almost forgot, Pray, Pray, and Pray, and God will take care of your fears.

God Bless,

Success

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
