I have my appt with Dr. Friedman the first week of Sept. I attended the informational seminar. The physicians office verified my insurance United Health Care covers the procedure. I have to do a six month weight loss monitored by a physician. Luckly I have already been seeing my physician for weight loss the last three months. I have to have a BMI of 40 or over and mine is 41 and I have to show five years of being overweight of at least a 35 BMI. All of these I already qualify for. I also have recently within the last month been diagnosed with high colesterol, high blood pressure and swelling/water retention. I am only thirty and am falling apart. So here is the begining of my journey. I hope that I am not like many that are declined the first time around. I am happy to complete the physicians monitored program because I realize that I have to make major life changes in my life to be successful. So here I go.....

Hi Lovinmeagain! I wish you all the luck and hope you are able to get your surgery! I am just starting out, I have the seminar to go to in September. And I have no idea if I will have to be on a monitored diet yet. My insurance just goes by what the doctor recommends, which I'm hoping he thinks I qualify. My BMI is 51 and like you I feel like Im falling apart. Im only 27 and can't get around good. My knees literally make a crunching noise when I walk up and down stairs. I have heard the changes you have to go through after surgery aren't easy but well worth it especially for your health. Good luck to you and your journey. Keep us updated!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
