Don't Say "You Can't" to People

Recommended Posts

You can not redo a gastric by pass or undo it it is a permanent surgery. If you were unsuccesful with the bypass I would not consider the band as it is the same even harder. Surgeons only get paid about 1000 to 1500 per surgery its the hospitals that cost so much so he may be correct. He cant do a sleeve because most of your stomach was stapled and moved away no way to fix that. You can get the band but like I said its the same concept if you do not follow the diet you will not lose weight.

There is nothing worse than getting an email from someone who is uninformed and REALLY negative:

  • You Can't
  • Not Covered
  • You Screwed up

This is NOT aimed at anyone in particular, but I feel like I want to address it.

The site should be a support site where people share experiences. In therapy, they teach people to say "I feel....."...."In my experience....." When you start with the words "He can't"...blah blah blah....you are killing someone's dreams in that moment. Do you realize how bad that feels to someone who isn't STRONG like me? Some of what I have read borders on cyber-bullying/abuse and is really ridiculous. We're adults!

So at least if you are chatting with me, show me your data with links if you are going to speak in absolutes. I'm a very factual person who doesn't take well to anecdotal research. I like studies that involved hundreds to thousands of people.

So again, thank you to ALL of you who have answered me -- regardless of whether I agree with you or not. But let's be decent to each other and think before we type.

Oh, did I mention I am a non-denominational minister? Peace.

M

You can have the gastic bypass redone or undone. It is not common, but can happen. I have had two friends who had one of these done. One had the bypass many years ago, she lost a ton of weight and then gained it back in 2 yrs. and recently had it redone. Another friend had it done, and decided that she wanted it undone, and guess what it is reversable, but will most likely have serious complications. It is not possible for everyone to get it reversed, does not happen that often, but it can be done for some.

My mother had gastric bypass 4 years ago..she was told it is not reversible and prior to surgery she was advised to attend seminars and really think about bypass because it is permanant

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
