I miss fruit!

Recommended Posts

Hello. I am new to this board!

My band surgery was 6/9/09 and I have lost 55 pounds since. I have 30 to go.

I miss fruit! Are there any fruits that you notice are easier? Any suggestions?

Apples and surprisingly Watermelon are especially hard for me - although I keep trying :)

Have you heard anything about juice Plus?

I can eat watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberry, banana, peaches, grapes but apples give me a heck of a time. They are really the only fruit I have trouble with.

If it's what I think you're referring to, juice Plus is pills containing the nutrients from a bunch of fruits or vegetables, in capsule form. Not sure that would provide you with a feeling that you had eaten fesh fruit.< /p>

No definitely would not. But want the nutrients. I think the juice Plus is a Gummy / chewy type.

In that case, I'd say go for it. I took juice Plus for a couple of years, and found the quality to be excellent. I didn't know they had a chewy type now - it was capsules when I took it.

When I'm not too tight, these work for me: very soft pears, cooked apples, applesauce, ripe kiwi, ripe bananas, ripe peaches (blanch the skin off first), ripe strawberries, ripe cantalope.

The riper the better and chew, chew, chew. I found that if the fruit wasn't really ripe, I tended to chew it into smaller pieces, but then those pieces were so slippery that they would slide down my throat before they were chewed enough--and then the little chunks would get stuck.

I cannot eat mangos--too fiberous--nor grapes or blueberries--the skins just don't get through no matter how much I chew.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
