Went in on Fri. for an appointment with PA and a Flora fill. In the office the scale showed 174...great news down 19lbs since Oct. I think hmmm my scale said 178 this morning. I had asked about this once before and was told that it was calibrated every morning. I think they take off 3-4 lbs for clothes. Get downstairs at the pain center and the scale says 178 lbs. hmmmmmm. At home I weighed the same NAKED, soooo how much do I weigh? Also, I don't usually weight the same at 9 am and 2 pm weather I have eaten or not.l Anybody else run into this?

I weigh the same at the sugeron and nutrition office. They have these special scales that show how much is fat free mass, bmi, Water, and some other things. Oh and they take 3 pounds off for clothes. When I had to see my PCM I weigh about 3 or 4 pounds more. They do not use the same type of scales. I weigh at the house in between I was able to change some settings and mine weigh me what the sugeron and nutrition office does. Oh and I weigh at the same time and day that we do those monthly challenges.

Your body weight can flucutate 2-3 lbs throughout the day due to various processes going on inside your body, which accounts for the difference in the time of day. The only thing I can think of for the difference between the scales at the office and at home is just the difference in the scales. I have the same issue with my regular scale, and my Wii. There is usually a 4lb difference between the two. And I don't account for my clothes just to make it even.

My doctor's scale is normally 3 or 4 pound difference than my at home scale. Except my last visit, I noticed a 20 lb difference. I kept weighing myself at home and the scale kept getting lower and lower, I was happy thinking I was losing a lot of weight. The other morning my scale wouldn't work, then I remembered to change the battery. Spent $10 on new batteries, scale wouldn't work at all. Went to Walmart and bought a new scale. Finally got it to work and I was up 20 lbs. So I guess my scale has been broken since my last visit in July to Dr's office. Uggghh, now I am upset. I have to stop depending on those scale numbers. But the good thing is I am down 100 lbs. Now I have to get off the last 30 lbs.

My doc's office doesn't take off anything for clothes and my appt's are usually in the early evening so I always weigh more at their ofice than at home.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
