exercise at home

Recommended Posts

I really don't have the time to join a gym because I have a 16 month old at home and it's just him and I. So I need some workout routines to do at home. I was banded 6/17 so i'm almost 8 weeks post op. Any suggestions anyone? Right now I do hip hop abs like 2 nights a week. My weight is at a plateau right now. I need some help!

There is so much you can do. Do you have stairs? I go up and down my stairs a million times - ok it just feels like a million but I'm up to 70 times (up & down is equal to one) but it really kicks your butt. I have a 2 year old and I pop him in the stroller and we do 3-4 miles a couple of times a week around the neighborhood. He loves it!! On our tv we have free on-demand work outs - not sure if your cable provider has the same but they are great and they change every month or so. If not get some videos or check out youtube - great place to watch exercise videos! I also love my Wii - EA Active. It is a great workout! Good Luck to you. Hope this helps!!

I love Power 90 by Tony Horton. I'm not quite ready for P90X :) but Power 90 is challenging for me without causing me to want to die.

Great! thanks for the advice. My 16 month old loves to be outside, so walking is great, weather permitting.

I am so glad you asked this question because I was also curious about this. I'm a stay at home mom to two boys and we only have 1 car between my husband and I. We do have stairs but it's hard for me to go up and down them because of my knee problems so I'm trying to think of other things I can do. I might give in and get a treadmill, and I would love to try hip hop abs. I always see it advertised on TV and think that it looks fun.

You cagn get much better exercise at home with stuff like circuit and sandbag training than you will ever get in a gym class if you can motivate yourself. But on busy days i even do aerobic housework, lol. Its how i motivate myself to mop floors, scrub showers and clean windows, five minute blocks interspersed with five minute runs on the treadmill or squat, pushup and crunch sessions. It sounds nuts, heck it is nuts but its actually very strenuous, you need a shower afterwards!

I have always loved home work out videos and I am an avid user/believer of Jillian Michaels DVD's. I really do see results with them and I get more of a work out with her 20-40 min. workouts than I do when I actually go to the gym and work out on the elliptical and weight machines for a good 2 hours.

I really recommend her yoga DVD, No More Trouble Zones, and her Ripped in 30.

All you need is 3lb or 5lb weights and a positive attitude :)

I really like the Leslie Sandsone 3 mile Bootcamp routine you can do at home or the One by here called 4 mile fit to firm. Try these they really work for me. I do one of them every other day or so. Let me now how you like them.

I've built up quie a collection of home work-out stuff an one of our spare bedrooms has been transformed into our workout room. Jillian Michaels has a series called The Biggest Winner-it's a set of 5 killer workouts. If you're not up to that level, try Kathy Smith: Project You...it's great for beginner through intermediate. Others i have: Gunnar Peterson's Core Secrets series, Winsor Pilates, and The Firm. i invested in a good stability ball, a stair stepper, yoga mat and some 5, 10, and 20 pound weights.

If you have Netflix, there are some pretty decent Crunch series workouts, mostly Yoga and Pilates, but thre are a couple cardio ones as well. I am going to start getting The Biggest Loser workouts next. Most of them have really great reviews on Amazon.< /p>

I have bad knees also and I use the treadmill and a recumbent bike. When my knee gives out on me on the treadmill I switch to the bike.

I bought a good skipping rope. I skip 100 times, do a superset of floor exercises (such as pushups, squats, etc.) and then repeat 100 skips. I repeat until I've hit all my major muscle groups, and then go through it again. It's a great and inexpensive way to work out.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
