kristenaz 0 Posted August 14, 2011 Hi everyone! My name is Kristen and I am from Arizona. I am really nervous (and excited) because my surgery is this coming Tuesday. I have a lot to lose (currently at 295!) I never thought I would let myself go and get to this point. I have a lot of bad habits to break and I hope that the band will help me take control and make big changes for my health. I am looking forward to looking through the posts and hearing your stories. How long can I expect to be off work? I am a kindergarten teacher and not sure if I will feel good enough after a week to be on my feet and run around like crazy with all the kiddos. Any pre-surgery advice would be greatly apprieciated.

SageTracey 608 Posted August 14, 2011 Hi Kristen, being on your feet will help but you will also need to be able to rest after surgery. For me the biggest effect was the anaesthetic so I took two weeks off. Hope that helps and best of luck
icandoit5 0 Posted August 14, 2011 You will be ok in about 5 days. I was scared, too, but the worst for me was the shot in the hand to put me to sleep. haha I'm such a sissy. You need to rid your house of any Snacks. I drink Muscle Milk Protein Shakes. vanilla. They will fill you up. Matter-of-fact you can't drink all of it. Be sure to drink your Water and you shouldn't get hungry. Atkins mocha latta are a good fast drink, but the strawberry banana looks clabbered. Awful.
Pammie Sue 0 Posted August 14, 2011 Hi Kristen, My name is Pam and I am from North Carolina. I know how you feel, I was also nervous and excited. I had my surgery June 27 and I am doing GREAT. My surgery started about 7:30am and I was home by 3 pm. The actual surgery was less than an hour. You have to be completely awake before the hospital will let you go home. I had took a week off because I had plenty of vacation and it was also around July 4th dring that period. Many people go back to work in 3-5 days. I had to do the Adkins diet 2 weeks prior to surgery to help shrink the liver and I guess loss a little weight. You will loose around 10lbs and that gets u really excited! If you have any more questions, please contact me. I have lost over 40 lbs and I feel great! oint. I have a lot of bad habits to break and I hope that the band will help me take control and make big changes for my health. I am looking forward to looking through the posts and hearing your stories. kristenaz 0 Posted August 14, 2011 Hi Pam! That is so exciting to hear how much weight you have already lost. Wow! My doctor has me only doing a 3 day Protein diet pre-surgery. It has been a tough weekend only eating 1 meal per day (the other 2 is the Protein Powder mixed with Jello or pudding - yuck!) My surgery is first thing in the morning and they say I should be home by noon. I will keep you posted...
kristenaz 0 Posted August 14, 2011 Thats good to hear. I had heard that 5 days was okay if you are going back to a desk job, but being a teacher and never getting to sit down I was worried if I will be able to handle it. I'm sure it will be fine. Thanks for your input!
