post op liquid amounts

Recommended Posts

So I am 1 week post op and have moved to full liquids. I went back and read through my book and saw I should be eating "a teaspoon to a table spoon at a time" Uhmm this panics me because I can definitely eat more than that. I usually eat about 4 oz of Soup for a meal or half of a pudding/yogurt/applesauce cup at a time. Am I eating too much??

Today's meal:

Breakfast 1 pudding cup (over 2 hours)

Lunch: 1 applesauce cup

Dinner: 1/2 pudding cup

Snack: 1/2 yogurt cup

Not a half of a cup but half of the little cups they come in at the grocery store. I know I'm totally lacking on Protein but my stomach can't handle it.

Where are your Protein Shakes you should be still drinking them as well. You have to remember that just because you can eat that more doesnt mean you should. Measure your food all of it.

Im with you ChelseaM.

Am I right by saying even with the Protein Shakes, those should also only be about 2oz in each meal along with a minimum of 40oz of liquids a day?

I'm on full liquids as well and my doctor wants me eating 1 - 1 1/2 cups per meal, 3x a day. And drinking at least a gallon a day in between.

Yesterday I had:

Breakfast: 6 oz Protein shake= 35 grams of Protein

Lunch: 1 cup of Soup

Snack: 1 sugar free Jello

Dinner: 1 and 1/2 little yogurt cups.

I would say your amounts are fine. I would starve off of a teaspoon to a tablespoon at a time.

Just make sure you're drinking Water in between meals

And try to substitute at least one meal a day for a Protein shake.

well I went to my dr and they told me I should be eating 1/2 a cup to 1 cup at each meal (They also acted like I should have known this). I can't help but be frustrated that NO ONE EVER TOLD ME THAT!! That should be written somewhere in the books or they should at least tell me before the procedure! I'm now on the pureed foods and there's information on this stage forward but I really don't appreciate how I was basically on my own for the first two weeks. I hope your doctor provides you with more info than mine =/

When I had my "nurses teach" before surgery, they gave me a 1\2 cup measuring cup and said I should be eating this amount 3 times a day. Also, sipping Water throughout the day.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
