HELP! Not Losing Weight. Frustrated.

Recommended Posts

OK, Anyone, Everyone, set me straight if you can. :) I really have been working out and keeping my calories on track since my last fill I have only lost maybe 5 pounds and that was almost 2 months ago. I'm struggling and don't know what I could be doing wrong. ANYONE have some insight. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to do more? I'm just in a rutt & can't seem to get out of it.

Well sometimes you just hit a plateau, who knows why, even if you seem to be doing everything right. I have seen a lot of people on here say to increase your calorie intake because your body goes into starvation mode if you are eating too few calories. How many calories are you eating in a typical day. If it is under 1000 try increasing it to 1200.

I just know what happened to me at my last fill appointment....I gained a pound and she told me to cut my carbs way, way, way back and keep my calories under or at 1,100. I don't know what your intake is with this but that was my suggestion from my PA????

Thats also true.. I do around 1200 but i change up to 1000 every once in a while.. If I do manage to go over I try not to stress out... a lot of people i know seem to hit a plateau around 6-9 months.. which is a time you should be loosing.. just remember do document everything that helps.. i use myfitnesspal to document calories and food intake

You are absolutely right, I just hit 6 months and it bites!!! My intake is about 900-1000 right now. I will have to try and switch it up. Possibly cut carbs more and up the Protein.< /p>

If you are training you need way more calories than what you are currently eating. Bump your calories up to 1500 for a week and see how that goes. Seriously... I've been in the same boat and am just starting to figure out how the training and nutrition piece works.

Hmmm... Interesting about the plateau. I am almost 8 months out and I have been jumping back and forth between 191.6-189 for the past 3 weeks and I can't seem to budge. I'm eating 1200 calories. But it seems my Protein has been decreasing and my carbs have been increasing lately, so I'm going to try to switch that this week and see if it helps. I have a appointment in 2 weeks and if I've only lost 2 pounds by then, I'm going to cry. It will have been in 6 weeks since my last visit. I gotta get the moving. I've added in a Protein Drink for Breakfast to get my Protein up and I haven't been eating Breakfast because when I do I feel crappy, not stuck, but just crappy. I think it started really on my one and only fill 3 months ago of 0.75 cc.

I may want to switch up my calories because I work out 6 days a week and not sure if maybe I need more or not. But I ordered a body media fit (should be here Monday) and I want to see what that tells me before I change things like that.

muscle also weighs alot more than fat, so if you are losing inches, then you should be doing alright. i think we too easily get hung up on the numbers on the scale instead of looking at our clothes. my nurse practioner told me there is almost a 2 month lag time of inches lost to lbs lost. you lose the inches alot faster than the lbs, it kind of sucks in a way cause we become obsessed with the scale.

Cut the carbs. My doctor has me under 30 a day. If I eat carbs, I don't lose no matter the calorie/fat intake. If you're training your body will get the energy it needs from your stored fat, you don't need to eat carbs to get through it. (ok, unless it's a super grueling Iron woman work out. And in that case, you go girl!)

If you are training for a half marathon and eating fewer than 1,500-1,800 calories then you are putting your body in starvation mode.

Think about it - if you're running even for 1 hour a day you are burning between 500-800 calories (depending on your weight and speed, this assumes 5 mph).

So if you're only consuming 900-1,000 calories then you're really only consuming 200-600 calories. That's starvation. That means that your body is retaining every single calorie that it can because it thinks that you won't be able to eat for a while. You will eventually get sick and you are currently cannibalizing any muscle you're trying to build because your body is starving.

Up your calories - a lot.

  • If you're between 100-150 lbs you're burning around 500-650 calories running for one hour, so eat around 1,400-1,800 calories on those days. That will give you a good amount to live on.
  • If you're between 150-200 lbs you're burning around 650-800 calories running for one hour, so eat around 1,550-2,000 calories on those days. Sounds like a lot but it's not when you're burning 800 on top of daily activity.
  • If you're over 200 lbs you're burning over 800 calories per hour running, but you're safe to keep your calories between 1,600-2,000 like above because you have more fat reserves that will be tapped.

If you continue the way you're going, you will lose weight, but you will also get quite sick. Up your calories and watch the weight fall off.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
