My surgery was at noon today. Out of surgery at 1:45. To room and have already taken a walk, been to the bathroom, and best of all I can have ice and Water. I didn't think I was getting anything until tomorrow. Pain is tolerable.

Hello all!

So today was my first post-OP appointment, and I got my first fill... hooray! Feeling the difference is funny - I can see why I am supposed to do liquids only for the rest of the day, because I definitely have to get used to it.

I can feel restriction - if I take two sips of what I am drinking too close together, I can *feel* that my second sip is just barely getting down there. The first time it happened, I was like blink.gif ... and then I was excited, because I finally knew what the restriction feeling was supposed to be like.

I'm going to be all kinds of nervous when I go back to mushies tomorrow. *laugh*

Hi everyone. My surgery was yesterday and everything went quite well. The staff, nurses, and the anestheliogist were all quite nice and checked on me often. Oh and let's not forget about my surgeon. He was the icing on the cake! I went in for my surgery about 15 mins later than my scheduled time but my doctor said they could get me in sooner if they didn't wash the instruments from the person before me. Haha. I told him he could take all the time in the world!

After awakening from anesthesia I didn't feel too bad. As soon as I was coherent enough they had me drink some tea which went down without a problem. I'm surprised at how little pain I am experiencing. I haven't really needed the pain medication much except when I've been moving around a lot or doing my walking. The band felt a little strange most of yesterday but the nurse said it would go away as the swelling from my surgery subsided. That is mostly true except for when my stomach growls. It feels different now when it growls. I am on an all liquid diet for the next three weeks which I am tolerating well. I was initially afraid of nausea and vomiting, neither of which I am happy to say I am experiencing. After eating my Soup I get full very easily and feel satisfied. I follow up with my doctor on Friday but I don't know if I will be getting my first fill or not.

Overall this has been a much more pleasant experience than I was initially expecting. I hope everyone who has had their surgery these past few days is feeling good as well :)

Hope all of you banded so far this week are having a good recovery.

So my stage 2 is pureed/very soft foods. It is my first day and I just worked up the courage to eat something. I chose a soft scrambled egg. It took me over half an hour to eat it. I don't know if I was scared to eat or what, but I have never spent so long on such a small amount of food. I chewed it into absolutely nothing. LOL

I absolutely cannot wait to eat a scrambled egg! I won't have one of those until next month. The Soups I've been eating are doing a good job of satisfying me though. When I took my first sip of liquid after my surgery I was afraid it would come right back up but it didn't. :) Same thing for the foods I've had since yesterday. Luckily there have been no problems.

I wish you all could see this huge smile on my face tight now!!!

I just left my docs office for my 1 week post-op check-up... They had me weigh in & I'm down 13.4 pounds in my first week!!!!!

Good luck to everyone getting banded today & the rest of the week! My biggest recommendation - get up & walk as much as you can, as quick as you can after surgery.

Thirteen pounds is great! I can't wait to see what I've dropped when I go in for my post-op.

Ok so I'm getting banded in 2 days!! I have been in this program for almost a year and have worked so hard to get where I am. But i'm nervous. Me and my boyfriend of 4 years broke up a week ago today. I have been struggling with heartache and its been terrible. All of my friends and family told me not to cancel my surgery. Its something i've worked so hard for and they are willing to be there for me to help. I just need to figure out a way to mentally focus on myself. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm so scared of what to do and i'm trying to take one day at a time and its so hard.

I'm sorry to hear about your breakup. :( We are all here to support each other and I say you do what you've been working so hard to get done but, of course, only if you're doing it for yourself. I was banded yesterday and couldn't be happier about seeing it through. My acid reflux has already gone away. I have taken Prilosec for 13 years. You cannot believe how good it feels to not have to take that medication. I hope there are similar advantages for you. :)

I am having surgery Sept. 29!!! Starting the pre op diet tomorrow. I have to admit I am getting really nervous. Not too much about surgery itself but about failing. I am afraid of failing like I have failed other diets. I am assuming this is normal, but man does the brain play games. This group has been wonderful and I hope we continue supporting and checking in with one another. Erika

Good luck Erika! I was banded yesterday and it was easy peasy! Hoping for yours to be the same. :)

Must be a full moon. I know what you mean about the scheduling. They've scheduled my monthly visits for the next 7 months without my input. I'm going to call tomorrow and change them all. For the most part the doctor's office has been very caring, and I'm going to hope for no confrontation!

Tomorrow is my day too and I am on clear as well. My stomach is not liking it at all and is really growling too!!! To funny!

I do have to vent though. I contacted my doctors office to see about pushing my post op appointment back in the day. (Set for Thursday next week at 11am) NOT VERY FLEXABLE! The appointment was set for me without my input on times that would work etc. Then the "nurse" got upset when she learned I only took 4 days off.... which I had approved with them when I was in the office before. I explained my work sitation and her solution was not to move it to after 3 or Tuesday or Thursday it was well I'll just have to call you and review it since you cant leave work. Very belittling... I think I will for sure be mentioning that to my doc tomorrow! Not to mention I have called twice to request zofran ODT since I know that phenergan KNOCKS me out. Boy if I acted like that to a patient I would be in some hot water! Oh well... maybe she hates her job! LOL!!!

Had my surgery at 8am and got home at 6pm. It went textbook perfect. Just a little pain from the port placement and the gas pain in my left shoulder, but I am well. The surgical team was fantastic!!! more later

Yes thank you! I think it had to do with the gas settling there. It just never made it to my shoulder as it does with so many others. Now as the gas moves around, the pain is moving around - first side, then tummy, then back around to the chest.. Thank God for GAS X! It is helping a litte. I'm on full liquids now and I never thought I'd be so happy to drink a Protein shake! My tummy has been growling for hours now!

3 days on this and then on to soft food.< /p>

Winifred76, did the booby pain go away?? Any idea what caused it? What a shame they practically pushed you out the door like that! I understand schedules and all that but holy moly, I would think they would want to be sure you are good to go before they release you. Glad to hear you are home resting now. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
