Hello, 3rd day after surgery. Feeling ok. Gass pains are still there. As much as I have been burping, you think it would be gone by now. Looking forward to hearing all of your progress. :)

Ok people. 2nd day and i think the gas is moving more. However I'm still in pain. I'm trying to stay hydrated but drinking makes my gas worse and it hurts going down. Is this normal???

I was having quite a bit of heartburn, which the nurse at the hospital told me was normal - it is gas pressure on my diaphragm, she said. So that was hurting as I drank. What really worked for me was getting up and moving. My surgery was Thursday, and beginning Friday, I started a routine of "walkies" (is what mom and I are calling them). Every hour / hour and a half, I get up and walk around for 15-20 min. I am not walking fast, because I am a little stiff and sore, so it isn't like I am clocking miles or anything (and my pedometer died, so I can't even give you a step count, really) - I am just plodding around and around the garden in my apartment complex. But I can't tell you what a difference it has made. It largely eliminated the gas pain and heartburn, and has given me a little bit of an appetite. I feel pretty good, and I am doing really good with the liquids - yesterday was a really good day for me, with 48 ounce of plain Water consumed, plus I hit my 50g of Protein ... only about 600 calories, but I figure that this early, that's okay. I have been drinking a V-8 each day, and I think the Vitamins are really helpful.

Anyway, just wanted to share what is working for me. I hope you guys start feeling better soon.

I've been trying to walk around the house. Going outside isn't an option. I'm in Texas and it's hot. I'm really sleepy though and I'm trying to eat some broth but can't get it down without pain.

I had my band placed on Thursday sept 1st. I checked in at the hospital at 6:45 am and was home around 2pm. Very surprised at how easy it went. I had a little nausea post op but the nurse in the recovery room put some medicine in my I.V and I havent had a problem since then. I am sore but not in pain. It is kind of hard to sleep because my abdomen is tender . I am on Clear Liquids until tomorrow then I get to have full liquids for 2 days then mushies. Plan on going back to work Tuesday.biggrin.gif good luck to all!

Wow. I am gone a few days and I missed so many posts. This place is really active.

For those of you that have had your surgery this month, CONGRATULATIONS! I am looking forward to the 15th when I have mine. Thank you for posting about how you felt the few days after surgery. It lets me know what to expect.

I started my pre-op diet a couple of days ago and I have lost 2 lbs. so far. I need to lose 7 to 10 before surgery. I am aiming for the 10 lb mark because I'm sure there is a slight difference in my scale at home than the doctor's scale. It would be my luck if my scale said a 7 lb loss and I get to the hospital the morning of surgery and their scale said I only lost 6 lbs.

I hope everyone has a great Labor Day!

Good Morning everyone. LOL... it's actually noon. Um I have been sleeping a lot, which has helped with my recovery I think. Feeling much better this morning and am moving around a lot easier. Still full of gas. Haven't had a BM yet, so it's off to the store to get a laxative ;) . (tmi-i know) Did a lot of walking yesterday. Anxious to start eating the mushies Thursday. Sooooo wanted to eat a bowl of Cereal this morning. :( Getting by on popcicles and Soup. Try the cream of chicken and mushroom soup. It's really thick and fills me up. AND it's yummy too! Back to work tomorrow. It's going to be a change there. For the most part, people know that I have been banded so I think they will be more sensative to not offering me food that I don't want or need. Husband has been super supportive and I am glad I have him to lean on. Looking forward to the positive changes coming in our lives! Hope everyone is doing well and feeling well. ~Shannon

Oooh, you get mushies Thursday? I am jealous - my doctor's program calls for 2 weeks of liquids post-OP. I don't mind it so much, and I am filling up just fine, but I am looking forward to more variety.

I think I am going to make a big pot of split pea Soup today, and then freeze a bunch of single servings in my little tupperware bowls. I love split pea soup... mmmmm. That should help get me through the next 10 days. :)

So glad you guys are doing so well! I am being banded next Monday and can't wait. I am ready to get this started! I am so bored with the pre-op diet and I know the post-op will be boring too but I am just ready to get started on my way back to 'normal' food with Portion Control :) Can't wait! I feel like this might be a really long week, lol.

Hi how are you? Congratulations on your success. I saw that you have lost quite a bit of weight already. Did you lose that while on the liquid pre-op diet?

I'm being banded on Sept 27th.....so nervous!

Yes, the 326 marker that I am using as my "start" was my weight the morning I started my liquid diet 2 weeks pre-OP. I am currently 301. :)

I was looking forward to being banded but after really thinking && researching alot more I've decided to have the gastric sleeve instead, I think it will be best for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
