Sistersue 12 Posted August 12, 2011 Hi BigLW, my suggestion is always to call your doctor when you are concerned. You haven't had any real food I am assuming so you won't have a bowel movement. What you describe for swelling is very similar to what I had. But like I said, I'm not a doctor so if you are concerned give them a call. Pretty soon you may start to experience what we call, Water in, water out.
BigLW 0 Posted August 12, 2011 Sistersue what did you have? What is Water in water out?
BaileyRose 13 Posted August 12, 2011 free my surgery I didn't have a BM for several days... Then I had Diarrhea. That's what sistersue means by Water in, Water out. If you're concerned about being constipated, I would take some milk of magnesia and that will help. That pain you're feeling is most likely pain from the gas the blow in your abdomen during surgery. Hope you get to feeling better soon!
enchilada72 27 Posted August 12, 2011 Definitely call your physician. You could have a post op ileus which is very common from anesthesia. It is like an air pocket in your intestine. But the anesthesia slows every thing down. So it feels like it is just sitting there. Hope you feel better soon.
CheckYes 46 Posted August 12, 2011 My tummy felt pretty bloated for several days after surgery - maybe 5 or 6 days then it started to dissipate. I didn't have pain with that though. I would suggest walking around a lot, getting up and down off the sofa as often as possible - wait on yourself hand and foot - don't let anyone else do it for you. Having to get up to get Water and stuff helped me a lot. If you are concerned, call your doctor and let them know what is going on. I can guarantee you they have seen this before and can give you some suggestions. Best wishes,
becky101010 0 Posted August 12, 2011 It took me about 9 days to have a bowel movement after my initial surgery, and I actually have struggled with Constipation ever since surgery on 4/14 of this year. Just recently I've gotten a little bit more regular by mixing Dulcolax with a bottle of Water once a day for about 4 days in a row... It regulates me for a few days then I start again, so I'm not having to take it 7 days a week.
