Are You REALLY Hungry the First Six Weeks???

Recommended Posts

Hi, all!

Waiting to be banded, here. :)

Just wondering about the first six weeks.

My doc. has us on liquids for the first two weeks, then pureed/baby food consistency for the next four weeks (having about 1/4 cup of food 6 X/day).

I've read that during the first six weeks, many are hungry because they have no fill. This worries me.

Are you a little less hungry than before being banded?

I can't imagine not being hungry on liquids.

Your stories are welcome!!!

On the contrary, I have yet to eat all of the calories I'm supposed to in a day. The only thing that was a bummer was getting sick and tired of liquids that first phase. The liquids were surprisingly filling, I guess because there's so much swelling in the stomach it creates its own restriction.

Now that I've moved on to mushies, I can eat more but Im still not hitting the calorie mark! And, when I do get hungry it's usually time to eat, so no problem! :)

I dont think I had one single hunger pang until about 5 weeks down the track. I found liquids/mushies easy easy easy.

On the other side of the coin, I was very hungry after about three days post op.

Things improved after I got onto the "mushy" phase, but the liquid phase was a real killer.

I don't think I was fully satisfied until I got a decent fill.

I was hungry from the minute I opened my eyes after surgery. My first thoughts were........ I want a cheeseburger *ouch* I want a cheeseburger *ouch* I want a cheeseburger *ouch.*

I'm with NJChick, all I thought about was "real" food and when; i got so tired of the liquid phase for 2 weeks; i moved on to mushies about 1 1/2 week into it and still on mushies; living on eggs and milkshakes etc; Now we didn't have to go through pureed food at all, that to me would be horrible; we could just eat soft foods and chew them well like milkshakes, creamed Soups (broccolli and cheese and told them to leave th ebroccoli out, potato Soup, Tomato soup), eggs, eggsalad, refriend Beans with queso on top; No way could i do pureed foods; Going for my 2 week check up today;

I was starving the day after surgery. And I've been very hungry nearly every day since then. Until I get good restriction, hunger is "the norm".

Soft foods can include flaky fish. Try the Gorton's fish fillets. They are only 100 calories per fillet, very low sodium and fat, and have 17 or 18 grams of Protein. I have two of those with 1/2 cup of peas and carrots. All very chewable, mushy and Dr. approved. The fillets Ive tried are Butter Garlic, Lemon Pepper and Blackend Cajun (warning..this one makes you want to drink!) and they were all soooo good. Also, tuna is very easy to eat. I mix 2 tablespoons of fat free thousand island dressing into one can of tuna. Low cal, 32 grams of protein! And yummy! Im never hungry until it's meal time.

Oh, and another thought about the liquids phase. Those Protein shakes are really filling! I was lucky to be able to drink a cup before I was stuffed. I mixed my strawberry whey Protein with 1 C milk, 1/2 banana, 1/2 teaspoon of Splenda and a vanilla slim fast shake, then divided it into two(+) meals. Its hard to get all your calories in but this shake really helped me.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
