tengles 0 Posted August 11, 2011 Has anyone had increased bruising since being banded? My legs and arms are full of bruising that I have no idea where they come from. I have been prone to bruising in the past but not like this. Also what can I take, if anything, to prevent or reduce the bruises. Thanks ahead of time. CheckYes 46 Posted August 11, 2011 I think I heard that it can be anemia or low potassium. Check google.
momof3armybrats 1 Posted August 11, 2011 I had issues with bruising also. My legs looked like someone was beating me with a bat on a daily basis and I cant recall when I got them. I would just wake up with new ones. I was on a blood thinner for several weeks after surgery that contributed to mine. I am 4 months out now and it is improving. I was worried I was anemic because I have a history of anemia and platelet issues. I would call your surgeon and have some test run to see if they can figure it all out. Good luck!! ButterflyM 2 Posted August 11, 2011 I was given a blood thinner injection the morning of my surgery. I am not a person that bruises easily and that area on my arm was sore and bruised for about 5 weeks. In your case since you are prone to bruising this just probably made that a little worse, sounds like you will be just fine. Good Luck fellow bandster! screeden 21 Posted August 12, 2011 They give a blood thinner before surgery to prevent blood clots, and since you are prone to bruising anyways, and eating slot less foods now, will bruise easier. Make sure you eat plenty of Protein and Iron rich foods and it should help. Also take a multiple Vitamin every day. I use flu stone chewable vitamins.< /p>
728newlife 2 Posted August 13, 2011 Anemia is definitely a possibility if the bruises are that bad. I would also say it could be from a lack of Water. If your skin is not hydrated then you won't have the color or elasticity you should so I would probably call your doc and maybe get some labs done.
lifeisjustbeginning2011 11 Posted August 13, 2011 I had random bruises all over for about 2 weeks, then it went away. Make sure to have your blood drawn about a month post op to check Vitamin levels (b12, Iron, Vitamin D, etc) so you know you're taking the correct Multivitamin.
