All of a sudden I could eat constantly.....

Recommended Posts

Having been banded 9 months ago I have fallen into a nice pattern of living with my band. My weight loss has been decent (-109 lbs this morning) so I over 1/2 way there but i still have 80-90 more to go.

I have had 3-4 fills.... and the last 2 were because I just wasnt getting the restriction. I continued losing but it was because of my own will power until I got to the Dr for a fill.... which brings me to today.

Last week I all of a sudden noticed I wasnt satisfied with my normal food intake. Its the weirdest thing... Wednesday I was fully restricted and Thursday I was feeling like I could eat forever. My stomach was growling and I was basically just hungry all the time. That subsided a little but it has been all I could do to live through it until my next Dr appointment which thankfully is tomorrow.

Obviously I am in need of a fill. But my question is ... In your experience does the need for a fill just "hit you" all of a sudden?

Thanks in advance for your replies. I am thankful for this forum... as unbanded people can be as "understanding" as they like but its no match for people who have been there and done that!

When I am suddenly hungry and can eat more it is usually because I have been eating more carbs (usually not the good ones). Tuesday I was shopping all day and ate hash browns and pizza and by the time I got home I was starving (probably not enough protein). I ate 2 bowls of Protein Cereal, a Protein Shake, and some cold chicken and I was still starving. Normally the chicken would be all i could eat!

That exact thing happened to me! One day I was feeling restriction and then a couple of days later I could eat forever. I posted the question on here and asked my doctor. Both answers were that as you lose weight you lose fat around your band site it loosens the band up. Good Luck to you!

The same kind of thing happened to me. It was like all the sudden I was starving. My roommate, who is the one who pretty much always eats with me, looked at me during dinner and asked me if my band was taking a break or something. I hadn't totally been paying attention to it until she pointed it out and I realized I probably could really use a fill. Trying to hold back from over eating when I was constantly hungry was super difficult and I did gain back a couple pounds. Luckily I was finally able to get my fill earlier this week and I'm definitely already feeling the difference.

I had a fill on Friday....and all seems back to normal. My Dr said besides the fat in and around the stomach shrinking which of course loosens the band after 6 yrs of hearing stories like mine he is convinced there is some evaporation that happens although there isn't air that gets in the band...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
