My First Bandiversary!

Recommended Posts

I've been busy at work today and went to write the date and finally realized that one year ago today I had my band put in! Wow, what a difference a year makes. There are so many things that I've learned about working the band and about myself in the last year. I have fully reasoned that having this surgery isn't the cure-all. It will help, but you have to help yourself to make it work. I lost weight pretty quickly at first then went on a long plateau where I was slipping back into old habits. However, the last few weeks I have recommitted and am feeling great. My husband and I are going on a cruise in March (guess it's officially our honeymoon nine years later!) and I want to be able to do all the activities I want with no regard for weight. I've lost 71.3 pounds and I feel great about that! I know I have a long ways to go, and know had I stayed on track I could have weighed less now, but I realize it's a journey and that there will be ups and downs. And it's so nice starting to feel comfortable with myself. I was at a public pool yesterday, walking in a swimsuit, which is something I haven't done in 15 years. Sure I still felt uncomfortable around the tiny tan girls in their bikinis, but it was still a great feeling to be there with my family enjoying the day. So there's my story ... one year in. I can't wait to see where I'm at this time next year! Have a great day everyone -- I know I am!!

Thanks for sharing your journey. I needed to hear that. I had my surgery at the end of Oct, and I started off pretty good, but because I'm off in the summer and I got too much Fluid in my band with the last fill they had to take out more than they put in so I am a little less restricted and have really done some bad things these last few weeks. I wanted to be a 100lbs lighter for my bandannversary, but I may have to settle with 80-90lbs. Thanks you inspired me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
