How do you spell PLATEAU??? H-E-L-P !!!

How many of you have hit a plateau and been stuck there for what seems like forever??? My weight loss has come to a complete HALT!!! I've STOPPED losing...and I can't get the scale to budge again! Need your suggestions & ideas to help get past this!!! HELP!!

Are you measuring yourself? A doctor once told me that when you hit a plateau, your body is shrinking to catch up with the weight loss. I look forward to my plateaus! That being said, I would also look at what I'm eating, when I'm eating & how I'm eating. Don't eat late at night, don't eat around your band (drinking with meals & other bad bandster behavior), & do eat like a bandster is supposed to. If you are doing all of these things right & you have been on a plateau for a while, it may be time for a fill. Also, have you started exercising or exercising more? This could be adding muscle which weighs more than fat, making you think that you are on a plateau. I'm sure there are many other things other bandsters could add here, but these are just off the top of my head! Good luck! & WOW!!! You've lost 79.5 lbs.!!! Congrats! Great job!!!! Oh. I just saw that you have been banded over a year. You know all of this stuff!!! LOL!!

Journal your food..write down every single bite you put in your mouth..also write down how you are feeling when you eat..sad, happy mad etc..also write down the degree of hunger and what you were doing when you ate..this is what helped me alot..it works, there is something to be said about seeing it on paper, you may not think you are eating alot or those little bites we take all day long throughout the day matter but they do..once you see it on paper you seem to want to make better food choices and once you see it on paper you may see a pattern for example you eat more when you are mad or sad etc...this worked wonders for me..One other thing I did was do the 3 a day dairy..calcium servings of milk yogurt and cheese check out the site http://www.3aday.org/3aday/About3ADay/learnMoreAbout3ADay

And... more seriously. food is half the equation. Don't forget the activity. If you are exercising you may be doing some weight re-distribution. NSV's may abound while the scales stay obstinate.

And if you aren't exercising... tsk tsk tsk

Hi,

I was the never-ending plateau last spring for THREE months and was super discouraged. I looked at everthing...got a fill and then cleaned up my eating. I also changed up my exercise. I had been working out on my own at the YMCA and decided to join a spinning class. It is SO awesome...I love it. After a few months, I added kickboxing, pilates, coreboard, and a few months after that, got a personal trainer to kick it up for me. I have to say that I have lost inches and have gone down about 4 sizes in clothes. I haven't had a "miracle" in weight loss...only about 20 lbs since then, but my body is really changing. SO, I'd suggest you mix it up and change your exercise, etc. That will shock your body into responding.

I think keeping your food and diet varied is the key to busting a plateau. Your body is a creature of habit and adjusts to what it is used to receiving. If you vary it as much as possible within healthy guidelines, I think that is when your body responds. Walking the same 3 miles or eating the same high Fiber Cereal is healthy and great, but once your bod knows it's coming, it is programmed to deal with it. That is my highly scientific theory.:blah:

If you get the "right" answer her, pass it on to me. I am SOOO discouraged right now... I have lost and gained the same four pounds pretty much since new year's. The bad thing for me is that I was banded in December, so I should still be having some initial loss.

My doc refuses to try another fill before six weeks has passed, I have been religious about my gym visits, super-good dietarily (is that a word?) although starving, and much more active around the house. Nothing to show for it, nothing, nada, zip!!

I am soo discouraged, I want to just give up! I can't even cheat well because all the good cheat stuff makes me sick now!!!

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that you definitely are NOT alone! I am on the plateau right there with ya!!

I've been stuck at the same weight for a few months, within a pound or two, BUT, I did have a 4 lb loss this week, which means, if you add the lbs I've gained and lost that 4 lbs gave me a 1/2 of new weight loss. I'll take it gladly, LOL.

I hear ya girlfriend. HMMMMM Lets see I have been at 223 for 5 1/2 months!!! Yep! 5 1/2 mnths gaining & losing the same 3 pounds over & over. Finally in Jan started the LBT Bootcamp- which I highly recommend( LOL LOL LOL ) of course I do --I am the "Sarge" But all tongue & cheek here---I have broken my plateau in Jan & am down 4 pounds. More importantly my body fat went from 48% to 46.5%. This morning it even said 45% Body fat but who knows what tomorrow brings. Penni said she doesn't think I am eating enough calories now that I am working out. So maybe its the same for you Nancy. Today I tried to up my calories but didn't do very well & well its now 8:30 so I don't want to eat this late. Try looking at how much your burning vs eating & if its the right equation, ask that nutrienist (sp) you have & please please let me know what she says.

I'd been stuck for a couple weeks between 259-258, but this week, I started adding a Protein bar (210c, 19g protein) after I work at in the evenings, and today, I'm 256.5. Also, last night, rather than 30 minutes @ 17.5 mph on the bike, I did 20 minutes @18mph on the bike. I dunno if that's part of the change or not, but I'll defintely take the loss!

My daily calories had been between 800-1000 a day. I added 210 calories. I also burned 200 less last night. /shrug

Maybe that's just a kick start. Maybe that's what you need.

I was stuck at the same weight for a few weeks and was miserable. I was sure that this would be another failed attempt at weight loss for me. A friend of mine told me that me that she was sure that I wasn't drinking enough Water. She always has a bottle with her, I started tracking the water and low an behold I wasn't. I upped the amount and saw a drop of 2 pounds in a week. That seemed to get me going again. It takes a conscious effort on my part to get the water in. But it really did help. Just a thought.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
