I have finally found the answer...

Recommended Posts

I was banded in July 2004 and have lost 62lb since, i still have about 40 to go and have struggled with my weight. I did not need another fill, but figured out how to trick the band.

In September 2005 my daughter (22) took her life. It made me face lots of personal issues and past issues. I had to go for treatment and as a result of this we discovered that since I was 4 I have been depressed (I am 45) and have a severe binge eating disorder, which I kinda knew but in my family - hey - we are fat and happy (NOT):xena_banana:

Eight weeks ago I started taking a low dose of antidepressants and sure enough i have made the best choices and have had the most control over my eating ever. I have already lost 16lb and feel fantastic and motivated to exercise and live my life for a change.

My point is - you can fix your body - but your mind might sometimes need help. If anyone would like to chat to me about this my email is glenda6@hotmail.com.

I am also happy that I had the band - it saved my life.

Glenda :)

I'm happy for you that you feel you found the answer..my personal experience with antidepressants was the opposite..I too lost a child and my mother within 10 days of eachother and had another child diagnosed with cancer at the same time I was put on an anti depressant. I have always been overweight my whole life but the anti depressant was my demise..I gained over 65 lbs in 1.5 yrs with the Paxil...

I 'm sorry to hear about your daughter..I know first hand how difficult the loss of a child can be..I wish you the best..and wish you continued success :)

Thanks for your words. Nothing is perfect for everyone - but after years of trying to figure out my problem with food - it now seems so simple - that is what has amazed me. You hear many bad stories about antidepressants and I worked in the medical field for 8 years but would never take anything - i hated the thought of being another statistic with medication. Let me say that how I feel "normal" and in control for the first time ever I would take bucket loads if i had to.

Glenda~

I'm so glad you found something that works for you. I, too, have found anti-depressants to be a lifesaver. They allow me to function well and to feel in control of my life...as well as to feel actually happy. Even though I know they don't work or cause problems for some people, I thank God for modern medical miracles! I am sorry for your loss...I can't imagine how difficult that must be.

Bless you parents who have lost a child. I am so sorry to hear about it. My sons (different dads) live with their dads and I get so depressed about it. I should get grateful that I can still see them and my youngest (12) still comes on weekends. I tried Lexapro for months and didn't notice any real difference other than my blood pressure went up a bit.

I keep hearing Welbutrin is good. I guess I need to try some more antidepressants but am so afraid they will make me gain.

I admire your courage, ladies. I can't even imagine the pain of losing a child.

I understand what you are saying, I started on Anti Depressants after having a stillborn child. I waited a few years in between and my life ended up in the toilet because I didnt seek help for the grieving and tried to deal with it myself. I am really sorry about your daughter but I am sure she is looking down and very proud of you right now.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
