I'm really having an issue trying to follow any kind of diet. I want the surgery and I want to change my eating habits, but I guess if I had been able to change my eating habits I wouldn't be here right now. I did start working out regularly at the health club. I have to go for my weigh in this morning. I know I will be up. I've only lost a couple of pounds anyway. I'm hoping that this won't impact my chance to be approved. Anyone else struggling trying to lose weight prior to approval?

yes i needed to lose 20 lb prior to my insurance approval .i did everything psyche eval, sleep apnea, 3 mo supervised with regular doctor and i was the holdup could not get the whole 20 lbs off. i went up and down.took me over four months to do it.i would loose and start eating again and gain.i finally started going swimming in 100 degree temps in our lake every evening.i stayed under the bridge for protection from the sun. finally lost it. then i picked a surgery date right away no break so i wouldnt gain back before surgery.i also gained 5 lb during 1wk liquid phase.so yes i do know what ur going through.i am 8 days post op today yay.

Wow. I didn't know the insurance company could require you to lose a certain amount of weight. Can I ask who your health insurance is through?

well i'm on my 4th month of my "6 mo diet" and i've done nothing but gain weight. i've probably gained about 10 lbs. i've really been trying, but obviously not enough. i've been very stressed out at a new job and commuting a total of 3 hours a day. this has definitely taken a toll on my body. i talk with the docs about it...they just encourage me to eat healthy and try to get some exercise in. but all this stress raises my cortisol and i just keep packing it on. my BP has been elevated every time i go for my appt.

i am really hoping this doesn't hurt my chances of being approved. i have BCBS of alabama.... anyone else gaining weight on their "diet"?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
