Can't sleep on port side

Recommended Posts

Hey all!!!

I'm having a hard time sleeping on my left side!!! My port is on the left side of my tummy and whenever I try to sleep on the left side it hurts in the upper right of my abdomen area, sorta like a pulling sensation. Like organs or hanging with no support or something! Weird I know. I was banded July 13,11. Anyone else still can't sleep a certain way?

I had some pain on my left side also and that is my favorite side to sleep on......I would wedge a body pillow under that side and that would help.... :D

I guess I will consider myself "lucky" I was banded on July 29 and was sleeping on my right side/ port side a few days later. Now I do put a little soft pillow there between the bed and my tummy, It is very soothing and comfortable. Hope this helps, good luck.

I am 8 1/2 months post op and I still have pain when I sleep on my port side once in awhile. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason why it sometimes hurts more than others. I hope it gets better for you :)

Hey there, I was banded on July 28th and I was actually sleeping on port side two nights after surgery. Now I slept on my side and not leaning onto my stomach like I used to. Now I can pretty much sleep either way and on my tummy but when I position myself I have to do it slowly. Sometimes I'll get a sharp pain in that area but I assume it's still tender from surgery. It should pass with time. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
