GEtting Banded on 8-16 and Nervous

Recommended Posts

Greetings All:

Got my Surgery date for 8/16. Starting to get pretty nervous. I have read the threads over and over again and I guess it is normal having surgery to feel this way. Im a little concerned over the aftercare once banded. Can someone tell me how bad the pain was after surgery ? They are going to keep me in the hospital overnight and I will be released the next day. Im committed to making this work but a little worried about how I will feel afterwards. Any stories that people want to shar would be great on how they felt after coming out of surgery.

Good for you! A new day is coming and you should feel proud of yourself for the courage it take s to stand up and say, "ENOUGH!"

My procedure was really not bad at all. After delivering 2 babies via C-section, it was a walk in the park! There was some post surgery pain from the gas and my shoulder hurt pretty bad. I was given pain meds but never finished them - in a couple days I felt pretty darn good! I was given the option to go home or stay over as I had some trouble getting my oxygen levels up afterwards but I wanted to go home. I slept in the lounge chair and was just fine the next AM.

Everyone's story is different. I'm in my mid 50's and expected to have a tougher time of it - not so. I sailed through with flying colors. Just tell yourself this: "This too, shall pass" It was my mantra for the liquid phase!

I felt I was prepared for post op pain, gas pain, etc. And I have very high pain tolerance. What I was NOT prepared for was the immense amount of pressure just under my diaphragm, just below my sternum bone as I was waking up from anesthesia. I felt like I couldn't breathe, and I sort of panicked and felt like I just made the worst mistake of my life. It wasn't really pain, just felt like a baseball sitting there. From what I understand, that is the CO2 gas. That was 5 days ago. Now it is much better. I still have some gas issues, and still need my pain meds a little, but I would have liked to have been forewarned about that pressure. PS- they gave me some simethicone, and then had me walked, which helped alot.

I think it really depends on how you handle surgery. Me not so good, I feel like I have been ran over by a bus. I took all pain meds excet for one dose. I was really surprised on the pain level. Then again I really don't handle pain well. I was nervous about afterwards as well, mostly learning a new lifestyle. I think I was more nervous than excited. I am very happy with my decision, it makes me feel so good to actually see results. The port site will be sore for a while, in fact the 4 week was when I could finally wear jeans comfy. I think the after 2.5 weeks I was able to get out of bed with out pain. For some people it is a walk in the park for others it is a longer recovery process. Have you had any other surgeries before? I have had surgeries before and it was similar to gall bladder surgery. Maybe a little bit more painful because of the port. You know what "YOU ARE GOING TO DO GREAT" And you should be really proud of yourself for making the first steps to a healthy life! I wish you the best of luck!!

I was surprised at how little the pain was for me. My gallbladder removal was more painful. I was up the next day walking around with my lap band. The gas pain in the shoulder is painful. Use a heating pad on the shoulders, get chewable gas pills and rest. It will get better. You are on you way to the new you! One day at a time.

I'm not going to lie... I've had a rough time. Today I am 1 week post op and I finally feel ok.... More like myself. The gas pain, for me, was terrible. I too was definitely not prepared for that. But I lived to tell you about it! My back is in a lot of pain too. I don't know if that's because I'm sleeping differently or if there's still some gas built up back there... But I'm definitely going to schedule a massage. I feel like I have a fairly high pain tolerance and I thought my age(25) would play in my favor....I guess I was wrong.... Haha

I really hope I'm not freaking you out! It will all be worth it. Hey... I'm a week out and I've lost 11 pounds!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
