Had my first vomiting episode!

Recommended Posts

Well,

I had my first vomiting episode last night and it was awful. Went out to eat with family. I know I most likely ate too much, but for some dumb reason, I took a drink of Water and it pooled immediately in my throat and off I ran to the bathroom, pushing a couple of people out of my way in the process :), and puked up the water and some food, water came out of my nose too. felt like I could not catch my breath and then finally had it out. I felt so embarrassed about doing that in public. I went out outside to get some air. So today, I am just drinking hot liquids and staying away from food today!

You don't need too many of those kinds of episodes to get your attention.

I've found the only times I get stuck like that is when i'm eating too fast, and not chewing well enough. I've never gotten stuck at home, but have been stuck several times in restaurants. Taught me a valuable lesson: I have to THINK about chewing when I'm eating in public, no matter what is happening at the table.

I've thrown up (not PB'd) in public more than I can count over the last 2 yrs. Most of the time, I have the bathroom to myself, but when there's someone in the next stall, they invariably ask "are you ok?" Yes, I'm fine. I also find when I eat too fast (a habit picked up in basic training in the Army - if you don't eat your meal in 3 minutes, you don't eat) I throw up. I usually have to stick my toothbrush or finger down my throat to get it out - it rarely comes up on it's own. But I feel if I don't get it out, I'm going to be just miserable.

The only advice I can offer you is to try to eat slower. I'm so bad that if I throw up, I continue eating, I don't go on liquids for a couple of days. And if you throw up in public, so be it. It's not that big of a deal.

Good luck!

Marci

Oh, thank you. I am so glad that i am not the only one here. LOL! i was so embarressed. Our server came in to check on me, i am thinking i was a little loud in my vomiting. It was scary as the Water poured out of my nose, i could not catch my breath. I felt bad pushing those people out of the way, but at least i did not puke on them.

Anyways, i have been on liquids and mushies today and feel okay. i do feel a little swollen, but also started today too.

Won't do that again, that was awful!

I am so glad to see you write about this. I have yet to vomit, but have been stuck a couple times and PB'd - NOT fun. One of the reasons I wanted the banding was because of the possibility of vomiting - no kidding. It is a major incentive to behave myself. PB'ing reminds of this. I have never understood those who are able to vomit without feeling totally horrible. And now I use it to my advantage. Your experience helps me stay on track - THANK YOU!!!! And CHEW, CHEW, CHEW!

I only threw up a few times that night and it was not violent. just the Water coming out of my nose was the horrific part. i stayed on liquids most of yesterday, had some Tomato Soup last night with no problems. eating runny oatmeal this morning and i feel fine. i now know what to do and not do B)

but i will be telling my doctor at my next fill appt next week. they always ask when you go in for a fill.

I throw up a lot... not violently... but I guess I haven't learned to chew well enough yet (at times) or when enough is enough. Again, this is a reason I wanted the band... to make me stop when it's time to stop!

I hope that the vomiting will not make my band slip, but I think it's (the vomiting) going to attribute to my success as well.

Ok now I'm feeling more normal, I've had to episodes within the last week where I got stuck and it was very painful. I made myself throw up and wow what a relief after wards but I did find I became very hungry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
