Should or shouldn't I??

Recommended Posts

I have had 2 fills so far in what I believe to be a 10cc band (when I asked the doctor he just said it was a medium band?). My NUT old me that I now have 3ccs of fill. I have no restriction and can eat large amounts. With the second fill I noticed that I can't eat certain things for fear of being stuck-but not because I am full.

My doc does fills every 6 weeks. I managed to schedule my appointments 4 weeks apart so I have been lucky. This Thursday I have an appointment for a fill but it has only been 20 days. Part of me is worrying that he'll say come back in another 21 days-I don't want to wait that long!! It's so frustrating having the surgery and then having to wait so long between fills. I could go on August 22nd and I think they would do a fill then-but I am not sure about the 11th? I really didn't wantto do the 22nd because I leave for a cruise three days later.

Did anyone speed up their fills instead of waiting the 6 weeks? Did they still give you the fill? I am Dr. Strom patient in NJ.

I've had fill as close together as 2 weeks. I think you should get it now. You really don't want to do it right before your cruise.

I had my 1st fill 3 weeks after my surgery. I was scheduled for 4 weeks but I had to go in due to infected surgical sites (I am allergic to dissolvable stitches - go figure) so they gave me my 1st 4cc fill (I have an 11cc band) I had the second 3 weeks later (last Weds) for 2 cc due to a scheduling mistake by the office staff. Doc had no problem with giving me a fill (2cc) since I was doing well otherwise and recognized I was not feeling any restriction. This fill I can feel restriction, but primarily with drier foods (no sauce or juices). I have another fill scheduled for the last day of the month and I'm hoping that will be my sweet spot. I do find now that I'm just over 1/2 way filled it is easier. Much better now that I have some resistance. Don't know if this helps but every 3 weeks is not unreasonable in my estimation as you have time to adjust to normal food in between but I'm not your doc and don't know your body's issues. My doc may simply be more aggressive in the 1st couple months than others as long as we do well.

FWIW

Thanks for the input! I was wondering if you go to a "Center of Excellence" site that they may require 6 weeks? I am goingto go anyway and tell him that I don't have restriction at all-zero-and I am starting to gain which I totally don't want!

I go to a Center of Excellence. My doctor's theory is "You know your body better than I do." He even asks me how much I want him to put in. He might question me and sometimes we compromise, but ultimately, it's my decision.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
