Resistance Bands for Weight Lifting

Recommended Posts

Just want to let everyone know that if you are looking for a cheap and easy alternative to the gym resistance bands are great! I just picked some up off of Amazon for $30 and boy am I sore. So far they are just as good as freeweights for me and much more convenient than driving to a gym. Here are the ones that I bought and thoroughly enjoy: http://www.amazon.com/Black-Mountain-Products-Resistance-Exercise/dp/7245456313/ref=sr_1_3?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1312767004&sr=1-3

Just thought I'd pass along the tip!

What kind of exercises are you doing? Something from a video or personal trainer?

After I first got the lap band I did the gym thing for about a year so I had the basic movements down using free weights and machines. Once I got the resistance bands I kind of just started playing around with them trying to replicate the exercises I already knew. The particular bands that I purchased also came with a small brochure that gave some sample exercises. I'm sure there are also plenty of YouTube videos and other sources to find exercises as well. So far I am VERY pleased with my $30 purchase and the great thing is they all fit in one small bag that I can just pop in a drawer or the corner of my room!

I've been preaching about resistance bands on here before, not sure if many people know how effective they are. Considering how cheap they are, how many different exercises you can do, and they take up zero room....you really can't go wrong.

Now that swim season is over I have put aside the free weights and use the bands LOVE EM! I have a video with some excercises but also play around with them. I can also do the arm bands on my stationary bike-- it helps my balance also :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
