I've been reviewing the weight loss statistics contained in some of the message boards here and have been wondering how many people might be over the age of 50. I know that the ability to lose weight slows down as we age (I have experienced this) and am wondering what the experience is of other people in this age group-- especially women.

It varies by person of course, but it appears to me that most people are losing in the range of 7-10 pounds a month-- with a few much higher and a few lower. Just curious if anyone has any observations or personal experiences regarding the impact of weight loss and age.

Thanks-- and thanks to all for the wonderful education on here. I have been reading these message boards for hours and hours.

I had surgery when I was 53 (55 now). Though the numbers on the scale are not moving as fast as some of the younger people; I was wearing a size 26 when I started this journey and am wearing a size 14 jeans with room to spare at this very moment! I discovered that I had to be consistent with my exercise - I power walk (no running due to back surgery +) 3 miles M-F before work and 2 miles on Saturday and Sunday. I am currently in physical therapy to get my back in shape so that I can walk morning and evening. I look forward to it.

It is true that I wish I would have had lap band sooner, but I am soooooo glad I did it no matter how old I am!

Best thing I EVER did for myself.

As for losing slower than others, I look at it this way: with the help of the band I lost weight, got off medications, feel better about myself, and spend money on myself instead of my adult children ... without the band I couldn't keep the weight off even if I COULD get it off (tried many times), my self-esteem was in the toillette and all my money went to my kids because I didn't feel well enough to do anything or go anywhere. I'd say that slow loss or not this has been a WIN-WIN situation for me. :D

All the best to you.

~Fran

I am 48 pushing 49 - and I had the band the end of May. I would say you are right that it seems to be about 7-10 pounds a month. The weight tend to come off slower as we get older-that's for sure-but at least it is coming off! I agree that exercise (although I hate it with a passion) gives you more energy and I think it boosts the metabolism.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
