Any diabetics with the band?

Recommended Posts

I'm wondering if anyone has had their diabetes resolved after getting the band. I have to decide which surgery I want to have and would like to have the band as it is the least invasive option, but have heard its not so great for diabetics. Anyone advice or experience would be appreciated! :)

I was off diabetes medication within 3 months of getting my band. I continue to check my bgs levels and so far, so good. I've been banded a little over 2 years. It worked for me!

Good luck to you.

It's the number one reason my PCP agreed that I should have it. Her patients that are Type 2 with the lap band have resolution of their diabetes generally within a few months and she was dead set against gastric bypass because there was nothing stopping you from eating yourself a new football sized stomach.

Went from a 10.7 A1C to a 6.2 A1C within a couple of months after surgery. Blood Sugar is better then it's ever been and not being able to eat bread has been my #1 Savior. I am no longer thirsty all the time and my health has improved drastically after losing 65lbs. The band has been excellent for me so far.

Your news makes me happy cuz I'm right about where your A1C was when you started :)

This is just the kind of info I was hoping to hear. I had been hearing so many people tell me that the lapband would not work well for diabetes that bypass was the only way to go. Being someone who tends to be a binge eater, the band sounds like a better option for me than the bypass just based on that alone. Thanks for helping me make my mind up guys! :)
