Does the band loosen when we lose weight?

Recommended Posts

Seems like every time I lose weight my band also gets loose and I have to go in for a fill. I'm at a 8cc in a 10 cc band and I'm 15 lbs away from my goal. My Dr. says I do not have a leak, so I was wondering if we also lose weight around the band area. What happens when I get to a 10 in my band? Does anybody have the same issue? I would love some feedback.

Yes, it definitely gets looser as you lose weight. There is fat in the area and as it goes away the band loosens. I have a 10cc band as well but am currently in my sweet spot with 5.8cc in it. I am also about 15 pounds from goal so I'm confident that I'll never get close to capacity. I doubt that you will either. You still have 2cc to play with. That's alot.

What a great question. I will ask my Dr. when I see him.

Yes it does just like Cindy said. Mine gets loose at about 18-20 lb loss. I still can get stuck though. I have a large Ap 14 cc when I asked my Dr what if I get to that point and he told me it has only happend once and not to worry.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
