February 2006 bandsters unite!!

Recommended Posts

I haven't noticed hiccups, lol, but I have these pitiful little burps that are plentiful & don't seem to do much, lol. Mikey laughs at me, they're so wimpy!

I'm glad you can do half days! Sounds like you've got a good boss.

I'm afraid to fail too. And this post-op healing period is really tough mentally. We're not supposed to be thinking diet & weight loss... we underwent major surgery, but won't REALLY see results until we get a good fill. I don't wanna wait!!! Wah!!! **Sigh** LOL, sometimes I'm so childish!

Have a quiet, relaxing day! :)

Hey ya'll.

I amhaving chicken noodle Soup right now...and even eating the noodles (Doc Said I could) I stop at 1/2 cup, but know that I can eat more. I feel so hungry!!! I can't be very swollen in my stomach because I am so hungry!!

The old thoughts of stopping by and getting a chees burger at McDonalds keeps creeping in my head...I know I won't but those old thoughts are still there!! Does anyone else have that? I want something good to eat sooooooo bad. Gosh, I feel like I am going to fail on this...this is a really bad day for me. I just want food. I think if I saw a dramatic loss since surgery Iwould be better, but I haven't eaten anything and the scale isn't moving. I feel so bummed!

Maybe tomorrow will be better for me.

I am getting the hiccups too- they don't last long either.

Today is harder for me. I am hungrier today and find myself wanting to snack. I think I've been in the house too long or something. I was able to have some cream of mushroom Soup (drained the mushrooms) and put some oyster crackers in it too. I could've eaten about 3 cups of them!

I also had a 1/4 c of ice cream with my daughter and then had to remind myself that I am not on an "anything goes soft diet". The rest of the ice cream is in the trash!

I think I'm doing worse than everyone. I'm astounded (and jealous!) of people banded recently eating noodles and potatoes! I was banded on 2/21, so I'm six days post-op, and I am totally struggling with even drinking juice! I have really horrible gas pains, pressure in my chest, burning, etc., plus I have terrible burning pain in one area of my abdomen when I move. I can't tolerate protien drinks at all! I tried some and became so sick with horrible gas that I almost threw up! So I've been doing Clear Liquids (plus very watery pea soup) for the past few days, and taking in about 200 calories a day! Everything I injest gives me gas! I am also extremely lethargic and exhausted, and today I developed a racing heart (probably from low blood sugar and lack of nutrition). I'm still sleeping in my recliner. Anyone out there feeling like me a week out???

Sunta-

I am so sorry that you are having so much trouble. I have had an easier recovery but not everyone recovers the same. You must have more swelling I guess. I hope you feel better soon.

My experience has been so extremely different from everyone elses I just wonder if I even have a band. I never had ANY GAS at all. I actually have less gas now than ever before in my life!!!!! I feel completely normal and have absolutely no restriction what so ever. I can drink and eat anything and feel just the same as always. I have lost nothing.... I have gained nothing. I was banded on Feb. 2nd and I am hoping to have fill soon if I can get the copy of my medical record from my doctor! I am hoping after my fill I will finally see the results of my great expense! Good luck to all of you who are suffering so. I wish I could make the pain go away, but trimming 20 to 30 pounds will soon make you grateful that you went through this agony! Keep in touch! :paranoid

Welcome to the new bandsters!

Oh Sunta -- I hear ya! I'm sorry you're feeling so awful!! Do be sure you're sipping TINY sips & try not to swallow air while you're at it.

I TOTALLY don't recommend the following (it's against surgeon's orders)... but when I drink I have really sensitive teeth, so I don't close my mouth. As a result, I swallow TONS of air... and was feeling the worst chest pains. I thought I was having a heart attack!

Alex suggested a straw (which I've used all my life 100% of the time, because of my teeth). My doc had said no to them, so I was cautious about it... but I seem to have beat the air!! I can now drink Water again, thank goodness!

When is your follow-up appointment? If you're not better soon & don't have an appointment scheduled, I'd call your surgeon!

Whatever you do, remember to relax, take it slow, tiny bites / sips & chew chew chew! (It's my new mantra, lol.)

Hang in there!! (( Hugs!! ))

I am so sorry to hear that you are having such a hard time. Have you called your DR just to check in to make sure this is all normal. I know bodies are different, but if you don't get something in you soon I am afraid you will get really sick and end up in the hospital to get nutrients through an IV. None of us want that!!! Call your Doc or his nurse, and let us know how your doing. I have had the opposite recovery where I feel like I can eat anything....wondering if mine is even in there. good luck and let us know!! My thoughts are with ya!

Good Morning all.

I finally made it, day 21 after surgery so I can eat "soilds" now with my doc's blessings, I have to be honest I didnt think I would make it there for a while.

Thank you all for all your kind words and prayers, you guys have been my saving grace.

How I have a question.........Can we ever eat popcorn again? I know it is way too soon to be eating that questions but the family wants to go out this weekend to a movie and I was just wondering, is popcorn a casuality of band?

For all of you having a hard time, take it from someone who knows, talk to your doctor and tell people how you are feeling, chances are your not alone!

Have a great "FAT FREE TUESDAY" everyone!

Congrats Tammy!! I'm soooo glad you made it!

I've heard of folks having popcorn, but I've also heard that some can't. I know it's hard to be sure it gets chewed well -- those silly little yellow corn husk-thingies would hurt like the dickens in the wrong spot!

If you decide to try it, only have a few pieces, chew forever & wait & see what happens.

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
