I have been "lurking" for several months now and decided that it was time to finally introduce myself. Hi, my name is Catherine and I am a fat person . I have been "big boned" (as my mother says) since I can remember. I have never really had a problem with being large until hitting the big 4-0. I appears that once you hit that wonderful level of maturity, you body begins to revolt and mine was no exception. I never had any problems with blood sugar levels, high blood pressure, or achy joints (until now) and loved telling everyone that too!!! Karma is a nasty b***h and I hate her!!! So, now I have arrived at this crossroad in my life and I have jumped on the lap band wagon. I have my EGD this Friday, my psych eval and cardio test the following Friday, the pre-op appt. on 8/17 and finally surgery on the 22nd. I am finding great information on this website and am very excited/scared shitless about this journey.

Thanks for reading and good luck to all!!!!!:D

Wow Catherine, you seem to be moving fast through the process. I had my appointment with the nutritionist 7 weeks ago and am still waiting for an appointment to see the psychiatrist. I'm thinking it is an insurance thing and slow nurses handling the paperwork. I am hoping to have my surgery by the end of September.

I think your right. I am self-pay, so I think it moves faster if you are not waiting on the insurance for clearance. Good luck to you!

Hi , I'm glad you decided on the LB. As long as you floor the rules, dr guidelines - you and your band should work together very well. Big step toward a new life. I, too, was surprised at how fast your appts are. Great! Good luck and stay on board so we can help support you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
