Any ladies have the lap band and on tamoxifen ?

Recommended Posts

Wondering if anyone has any experience of having the lap band while being on tamoxifen.

I am on tamoxifen, and am wondering if it will effect my

Weight loss with the Lap band. A lot of woman complain of weight gain on tamoxifen, and while I dont know if I really gained any more weight while on it, I do know that it has made it VERY difficult to loose weight.

I am currently on day 3 of my 2 week liquid diet. Surgery is August 16.

I guess I am just worried that I will go through this surgery and still will have a difficult time loosing the weight.

I know that's a common fear with newbies. Just wondering if anyone has any input.

Thank you !

Congrats on the upcoming surgery. I wasn't on Tamoxifen at the time, I had moved on to Femara. I didn't find it to be a problem, I am sure you have filled out forms that list your meds; if there were a reason for concern your doc would have mentioned it. I had to list the last 5 years of weight (for insurance) and I was on Tamoxifen at least 3 of those and my weight was not my highest. So I don't think you have anything to worry about. Remember you will be changing what you eat as well as how much, and that is what causes the weight to come off. Some meds do cause you to hold weight or fuild, but the doc can cover that with you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
