My surgery was at 10:00am and I was home by 5pm. I decided to leave at 4pm, by the time they removed my IV and found someone to wheel me out it was 4:30. I needed to do 3 things to be able to leave. Eat jello/drink broth, pee and walk around the unit a couple of times. I spoke to someone today who had her surgery at 10:00 am and she was home by 3pm. Find out what are the requirements to be discharged when you have your pre-op appt and then meet those goals.

Good Luck with your surgery!!

I'll be having my surgery at a surgical center. As soon as I can swallow drink and pee that's pretty much it providing there's no complications.

Surgery was at 12 pm (surgery center), home by 5pm (includes a 30 minute drive). No walking after the surgery, except to the bathroom to put on my clothes. As soon as I was alert, I was outta there. They said "you heal better at home." Find out where your surgery will be and learn about their policies before you go :)

"Room charges" are usually done on a 24 hour clock - shouldn't matter if you are discharged at 11am or 8pm - it is the same fee. I would call the hospital and talk to someone in the billing department.

I had to be at the hospital at 5:45 am, was discharged at 1 someting. I could have gone home sooner, but I had to pee first. I was tolerating ice chips while I was in PACU, and when I finally did get up to pee, I was feeling just a little "yucky" so they had me lay back down for a little while (30 mins). The anesthesia make it alittle difficult for me to pee. And I got 2 doses of iv pain med and 1 dose of nausea med IV, all that made me go into la la land so that extended my stay a little. But i wanted to be comfortable on the way home :) Good Luck, hope this helps

I arrived at the hospital at 6:15 am, surgery was around 7:30, and I left around 10:15. I was out pretty fast. They didn't even make me pee before I left :)

I had surgery yesterday. My check-in time was 7 AM. I believe I left the hospital around 3:00. I was having some pain so they gave me some medicine which made me sleep for a couple hours... If it weren't for that I could have gone home sooner, I guess. They wanted to make sure my vitals were good, I could pee, drink and walk around before I could check out. But apparently I needed a little nap too :-)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
