jen120 23 Posted August 3, 2011 My surgery was at 10:00am and I was home by 5pm. I decided to leave at 4pm, by the time they removed my IV and found someone to wheel me out it was 4:30. I needed to do 3 things to be able to leave. Eat jello/drink broth, pee and walk around the unit a couple of times. I spoke to someone today who had her surgery at 10:00 am and she was home by 3pm. Find out what are the requirements to be discharged when you have your pre-op appt and then meet those goals. Good Luck with your surgery!!
aliciab 8 Posted August 3, 2011 I'll be having my surgery at a surgical center. As soon as I can swallow drink and pee that's pretty much it providing there's no complications.
lifeisjustbeginning2011 11 Posted August 3, 2011 Surgery was at 12 pm (surgery center), home by 5pm (includes a 30 minute drive). No walking after the surgery, except to the bathroom to put on my clothes. As soon as I was alert, I was outta there. They said "you heal better at home." Find out where your surgery will be and learn about their policies before you go Can you tell me how many hours you all stayed int he hospital? I am self pay and I really was hoping just a few hours. bradison 0 Posted August 3, 2011 Banded this past Friday the 29th. Surgery at 9:30, left hospital by about 1:00.
MaggieB 6 Posted August 3, 2011 "Room charges" are usually done on a 24 hour clock - shouldn't matter if you are discharged at 11am or 8pm - it is the same fee. I would call the hospital and talk to someone in the billing department.
ButterflyM 2 Posted August 4, 2011 I had to be at the hospital at 5:45 am, was discharged at 1 someting. I could have gone home sooner, but I had to pee first. I was tolerating ice chips while I was in PACU, and when I finally did get up to pee, I was feeling just a little "yucky" so they had me lay back down for a little while (30 mins). The anesthesia make it alittle difficult for me to pee. And I got 2 doses of iv pain med and 1 dose of nausea med IV, all that made me go into la la land so that extended my stay a little. But i wanted to be comfortable on the way home Good Luck, hope this helps
nurse535 30 Posted August 4, 2011 I arrived at the hospital at 6:15 am, surgery was around 7:30, and I left around 10:15. I was out pretty fast. They didn't even make me pee before I left
BaileyRose 13 Posted August 4, 2011 I had surgery yesterday. My check-in time was 7 AM. I believe I left the hospital around 3:00. I was having some pain so they gave me some medicine which made me sleep for a couple hours... If it weren't for that I could have gone home sooner, I guess. They wanted to make sure my vitals were good, I could pee, drink and walk around before I could check out. But apparently I needed a little nap too :-)
