Hi, I was banded 2/24/22011 I am at 5.5cc in my band. I have had swallow test as recent as last month and everything is normal. I am wondering. Does the feeling of always having something in your upper esophagus...is that normal? I mean i can eat and it used to make me think something was going to be stuck so i would make myself vomit. Now I am starting to wonder...IS this a normal feeling of full? I know im not going to get the over satisfying feeling of full anymore so is this what full feels like? The practictioner says its not too tight but no one can tell me if this is normal?

My weight loss has been poor since I had my surgery. Im only down 20.3 lbs since surgery. I can exercise more but as far as eating. I always eat about a cup of food chew well and sometimes it goes right thru and sometimes it feels like this! I would like to lose more weight im just strugling right now on that part. I guess I hanvnt quite got the band figured out. I know there are people had there surery same time as me and have lost 50+ lbs. I dont know how you do it! Its so hard for me to lose weight.

First, you shouldn't compare yourself to anyone's weight loss. I had my surgery September of last year and I know folks who have lost more than me who had their surgery 6 months after. Does it bother me? Nope. Because I know that I'm losing at the pace that's right for my body... If you're doing everything correctly and following the rules, you're body will act accordingly. Don't stress over others weight loss. You'll set yourself up for failure :)

As far as the feeling in your esophagus, that's what I like to call a soft stop. It's my band telling me to prepare to stop eating. LOL. It happens more with denser food, like chicken or steak or dryer food. I don't get it as much when I eat slider food like yogurt or cottage cheese. When I get that feeling, I start to take smaller bites in between longer periods of time or I just stop eating. It really matters how much I've eaten. If I didn't get the calories in that I plan for that meal, I may take longer to eat by doing what I just said. Another soft stop signal is hiccuping.

You should be very proud of yourself and your weight loss.. Don't beat yourself up because it's not coming off fast. Sometimes slower is better because your getting your body used to eating the correct way.

Take care,

Julia

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
